Beer board revokes Stepping Out beer permit

by Jacqueline Koch

The Chattanooga Beer and Wrecker Board today revoked the beer license of Stepping Out Pub and Grill, located on Shallowford Road.

A Chattanooga police detective testified that on Nov. 25, a person was shot inside the establishment and another outside, and that owner Charles Peacock did not report the incident to police, a violation of city ordinance. He also was serving food after the establishment was supposed to close at 3 a.m., also a city ordinance violation.

Mr. Peacock previously had been cited to the beer board for operating his business after closing hours, which resulted in a seven-day suspension in 2005 and three-day suspension in 2008.

Mr. Peacock testified today that he didn’t hear the gunshots. Neighbors testified the establishment attracts criminal clients.

Mr. Peacock told the board he would give up his license if it helped the community.

“I’ll probably end up selling everything,” Mr. Peacock said at the end of the hearing.
