Today was photo day for Soddy-Daisy High School’s Band in Pasadena, Calif., where the band is preparing for a Friday appearance in the Tournament of Roses Parade.
Mitzi Freeman, band webmaster, said the band and color guard had their official Tournament of Roses photos made in full uniform at the Rose Bowl. The group shots will be students’ keepsake of the year they marched in the granddaddy of New Year’s Day parades.
Students also got a tour of the “float barn,” she said, where volunteers prepare their floats for the parade.
Following the photo session, the band marched in the Tournament of Roses Band Fest in Robinson Stadium at Pasadena City College.
Bandfest is an exhibition that features all the bands of the 2010 Rose Parade performing their field shows. The exhibition allows all the musicians to see the caliber of talented musicians, dancers and auxiliary performers with whom they are performing in the parade. The public may purchase tickets to see the invited bands present their shows, so the event doubles as a fundraiser for the Tournament of Roses committee.
Last night, students and their entourage took in Universal Studios and Hard Rock Cafe after an afternoon practice at Whittier College.

Let's NOT forget about the other high school bands in the area that are also in out of town parades. I realize that this is a great accomplishment for the SDHS band, but there ARE other bands in the area, as well, that are as good, if not better.
