6 seek Athens council seat

by Ron Clayton

ATHENS, Tenn. — Six people have applied for the seat on the Athens City Council seat left vacant when Shannon Alvey resigned.

Jones Beene, Jordan Curtis, Harold Hunter, Shane Jackson, Ray Luck and Connie Woodcock applied by the Monday afternoon deadline.

At their work session Tuesday,Feb 9, the four incumbent council members will discuss and rank the applicants. The council called a special meeting Feb. 11 to vote on a new member.

Ms. Alvey was re-elected Nov. 4 but resigned in January, saying a job promotion meant she couldn’t attend council meetings.
