Wamp, Deal vote no on stimulus, Davis yes

by Herman Wang

WASHINGTON — The U.S. House this afternoon passed the final version of the $787 billion economic stimulus bill, 246-183.

Reps. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., and Nathan Deal, R-Ga., voted “no,” while Rep. Lincoln Davis, D-Tenn., voted “yes.”

“This legislation represents some hard-won compromises that will take our economy back towards recovery,” Rep. Davis said after the vote.

Rep. Wamp had urged his colleagues before the vote not to support the package, calling it “an ill-conceived thought.”

No Republicans voted for the bill, while seven Democrats voted against it.

The Senate is expected to vote on the package later tonight.
