East Ridge: Citizens group hires attorney in Steele ouster

by Elizabeth Ryan

The East Ridge citizens group that petitioned for Mayor Mike Steele’s ouster has hired attorney Charles Wright Jr. to represent them.

Lead petitioner Jackie Fulks said their case was rejected by several attorneys before Mr. Wright agreed to represent them.

The group claims Mr. Steele usurped the powers given to him in the City Charter by setting up an office and hiring employees.

In a court appearance in mid-December, Hamilton County District Attorney Bill Cox told the group he would not help them pursue their case.

The group is expected to appear in Hamilton County Criminal Court on March 31, Ms. Fulks said.
