Experienced Pilates students can lean from 'Pilates Nun'

Powerhouse feeling puny after the holidays?

Rebecca Leone, the “Pilates Nun” from Seattle, promises to tone you back up with a master mat class at 6 p.m. Monday at Signal Mountain Pilates, 819 Mississippi Ave.

“She’s got a wealth of information that Pilates instructors like me just eat up,” said host Sydney Craig, owner of Signal Mountain Pilates.

The class is designed for experienced Pilates students.

The public is invited to an hors d’oeuvres reception at 7 p.m. following the class, featuring historic film footage of Joseph and Clara Pilates.

Other opportunities for Pilates education include private classes with Ms. Leone on Jan. 20 and Jan. 26. Prices range from $150 for private classes to a $200 group session. Call 886-7500 to schedule an appointment. The Monday session costs $13.

Ms. Leone, not an actual nun, is leading a five-day Pilates Excel program for local instructors, Ms. Craig said.

“This is a program I’ve wanted to go through for awhile, so I contacted her on a whim thinking there was no way she would come here, and she was all about it,” Ms. Craig said.
