The Commodores and The Wailers, icons in the R&B and reggae music worlds, have been added to the Riverbend Festival 2009 lineup, according to festival officials.

The Commodores, famous for such hits as “Brick House” and “Three Times a Lady,” will perform June 10 on the Coca-Cola Stage.

The Wailers earned famed as Bob Marley’s backing band. They are scheduled to perform on the Bud Light Stage June 7.

The Commodores also had hits with “Machine Gun,” “Easy,” “Sail On,” “Oh No,” “Slippery When Wet” and “Too Hot Ta Trot.” The group currently tours as a trio featuring charter members Walter “Clyde” Orange and William “Wak” King, and longtime member James Dean “J.D.” Nicholas. Lionel Richie was an original member of the band but left to pursue a solo career in 1982.

The Wailers formed in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1963 and were part of such hits as “Stir It Up,” “Trenchtown Rock” and “Get Up, Stand Up.” Their current lineup features Junior Marvin on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Al Anderson on lead guitar, Aston “Family Man” Barrett on bass, Keith Sterling on keyboards, Drummie Zeb on drums and Marcia Griffiths on background vocals.

“The Wailers are a Coca-Cola Stage-caliber act, and we are blessed with being able to present them on the Bud Light Stage,” said Friends of the Festival talent and production coordinator Joe “Dixie” Fuller.

Previously announced headlining artists for Riverbend 2009 are country music duo Montgomery Gentry, scheduled to perform June 12.
