Chattanooga: EPB’s bad debt at lowest level

EPB in December wrote off about $344,000 in bad debt, the least ever, despite the economy.

The write-off in December was 0.128 percent of electricity sales, versus 0.157 percent of sales a year ago, said Danna Bailey Cannon, vice president of marketing.

The write-off is the lowest that EPB has recorded, she said. Most electric utilities write off about 0.3 percent in bad debts.

Mrs. Cannon said she attributes the low write-off to EPB’s flexible bill payment options as well as customers’ emphasizing paying essential bills.
