Chattanooga: Welcome, Delta Queen!

Over many years, the majestic riverboat Delta Queen has enlivened the Chattanooga waterfront from time to time with local visits for its passengers traveling on the Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee rivers.

With the aging Delta Queen facing a legal prohibition against such wooden vessels, the Delta Queen faces change. Fortunately, Chattanooga figures in that.

Harry Phillips, who operates the Chattanooga Water Taxi service on the Tennessee River and in the Moccasin Bend area, is leasing the retiring Delta Queen, planning to tie it up at Coolidge Park in North Chattanooga, so it can be visited by tourists and accept overnight guests as a hotel on the water.

Chattanoogans and visitors surely will be entranced by access to this colorful reminder of the days of colorful river passenger traffic.
