The Eat Fresh, Eat Local campaign continues nationwide. After successfully garnering 100,000 signatures petitioning the Obama administration to plant a White House garden with its "Eat the View" campaign, the same organizers have launched a new initiative: petitioning each of the 50 state governors to celebrate July Fourth by eating food exclusively from local farmers and producers. “Food Independence Day,” brought to you by Kitchen Gardeners International, with support from the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy Food and Society Fellows, wants all of us to commit to eating locally, at least on the designated Food Independence Day.
If nothing else, stop by Roden’s Produce or your favorite stand where you can get local produce. Ask first. Some local products are starting to come in on a regular basis. And don’t forget Sundays at Chattanooga Market where, if it’s not local, it’s not there.
