Hixson man facing statutory rape case

A Hixson man is facing a charge of aggravated statutory rape after a 14-year-old girl told authorities she had sexual relations with the man.

Hamilton County sheriff’s deputies on Sunday arrested Terry Dewayne Daniels, 41, after the girl’s father told police he caught his daughter sneaking out of the house, according to an affidavit filed in Hamilton County General Sessions Court.

The girl, who is not being identified because she is a juvenile and allegedly involved in a rape incident, told police she had intercourse with the man five times since December, according to the affidavit. The girl’s father found several explicit text messages on her phone, according to the affidavit.

Mr. Daniels is scheduled to appear in general sessions court today.

He already was scheduled to appear in front of Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman on Aug. 15 on charges of aggravated burglary, theft of property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Those charges are in connection with a January burglary in Soddy-Daisy, in which Mr. Daniels allegedly served as the lookout driver while two teens stole electronics from a home, according to another affidavit filed in court.

Five arrested on meth lab charges

Five people were arrested in Soddy-Daisy on Tuesday after authorities discovered what they believe to be a meth lab in a mobile home, police said.

A Soddy-Daisy police officer received information about a possible meth lab on Lot 79 in the mobile home park at 11229 Hixson Pike, said Soddy-Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick. The Soddy-Daisy officer and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to the residence, knocked and were told to enter.

Authorities eventually noticed a strong chemical smell like that of a cooking methamphetamine lab coming from the residence and asked all residents to leave while they investigated, Chief Hamrick said.

Officers went into one room of the home and found coffee filters, aluminum foil, electrical tape and a plastic bottle containing a two-layered liquid, among other items, Chief Hamrick said.

Kenneth Rogers, James Casey Rogers, Tiffany Sneed, Jamie Akins and Carie McGlamery were arrested and booked at the Hamilton County Jail on a charge of initiation of the methamphetamine manufacturing process, Chief Hamrick said.

Officers involved in car accident

While responding to an accident with injuries, a Chattanooga police officer was involved in an accident of his own Wednesday night.

The accident occurred just before 7 p.m. on North Orchard Knob Avenue when a vehicle pulled into the path of the officer’s cruiser, said Sgt. Jerri Weary, police spokeswoman.

According to witnesses, the officer was driving with blue lights and sirens activated. Traffic was stopped to allow him to pass, but at the last moment one of the stopped vehicles turned left in front of the police cruiser.

Sgt. Weary said the officer wasn’t injured, but the driver of the other vehicle was taken to Erlanger hospital with minor injuries.

No charges will be filed in the accident, she said.
