Tennessee: Prosecutors drop charges in alleged rape

KNOXVILLE — Tennessee prosecutors have dropped charges against a Georgia man accused of kidnapping and raping a woman in a Smoky Mountain cabin before an alert pizza deliveryman called police.

Assistant District Attorney Steven Hawkins told The Associated Press on Thursday that the credibility of the alleged victim was in doubt. He said that based on all the evidence, prosecutors believed they could not obtain a conviction against 46-year-old David Jansen of Snellville, Ga.

Added Hawkins, “Nor would we want to try to convict him.”

The 24-year-old Atlanta woman has been caught lying to police before. However, Hawkins said Tennessee prosecutors won’t seek charges against her.
