SEC media days: Gators awaiting Tennessee visit

HOOVER, Ala. — Florida linebacker Ryan Stamper said Thursday afternoon at SEC media days that the Florida-Tennessee football rivalry was around long before Lane Kiffin but that the new Vols coach has provided motivation. Kiffin accused Meyer of illegal recruiting tactics back in February, which didn’t sit well with the Gators then and apparently doesn’t now.

“My mother was the first person who told me, and my mom loves Coach Meyer, too,” Stamper said. “She was mad, and I was like, ‘Oh yeah?’ I called Coach Meyer, and he pretty much told me the whole situation and stuff. I was like, ‘We’ll find out in the fall.’

“Don’t be surprised if we try to raise the score on them.”

Florida, which hosts Tennessee on Sept. 19, has outscored the Vols 89-26 the past two seasons.
