Klose, Miller get planner designation

Bob Klose and Aon Miller, both with the Chattanooga office of Wells Fargo Advisors, recently earned the designation of certified financial planner professional.

A news release said the two had to “demonstrate ability to analyze and develop personal financial plans.” They also had to complete a series of financial planning courses and exams offered by the College of Financial Planning.

Mr. Klose is a graduate of the University of Virginia and has a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He and his wife, Kay, live in Chattanooga.

Mr. Miller lives in Chattanooga with his wife, Amanda, and their two children.

Both Mr. Klose and Mr. Miller have been with Wells Fargo and its predecessor, Wachovia Securities.

Wendy Gibson named Unum VP

Wendy Gibson has been named by Unum to serve as vice president in the insurer’s Chattanooga office.

She will serve as vice president of customer contact centers.

She has been with the company since 1991, joining initially as an underwriter. She has since had a series of promotions through the underwriting department.

Late Chattanoogan in Hall of Fame

Late Chattanooga businessman Robert J. Maclellan has been named as one of five inductees into the BusinessTN Leadership Hall of Fame.

Mr. Maclellan, a Canadian immigrant, worked with the U.S. Engineers, as an accountant with Citizens Bank and Trust and as a cashier with Richmond Cotton Oil before going to work with his father at Provident Life and Accident Insurance companies, which later became the Unum Group, one of Chattanooga’s largest private employers.

According to BusinessTN magazine, Mr. Maclellan became president of the company in 1916 and grew the regional insurance company from $350,000 in assets to a $120 million national insurance provider.

Other inductees include A.M. Burton of Nashville, William “Billy” Dunavant Jr. of Memphis, Luke Lea of Nashville and Preston Taylor of Nashville.

Connie Strock earns LEED accreditation

Connie Strock has successfully passed the Green Building Certification Institute exam for LEED accreditation.

Her interior design practice focuses on community banks, credit unions and other commercial spaces as well as residential interior design, a news release said.

It was also stated that LEED accredited professionals “have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building techniques, the LEED Green Building Rating System and the certification process.”

Ex-resident joins Nashville law firm

Registered patent attorney R. Parrish Freeman Jr. has joined the Nashville law firm of Waddey & Patterson P.C., as Of Counsel, according to Jack Waddey, co-founder of the firm.

Mr. Freeman has more than 11 years experience as a patent attorney and is with the firm’s litigation team. He was formerly an equity shareholder at Workman Nydegger P.C. in Salt Lake City.

He is a native of Signal Mountain and a graduate of Baylor School. He received his law degree from the Campbell University School of Law in North Carolina in 1996. His undergraduate degree was earned at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Bank of Cleveland earns recognition

The Bank of Cleveland in Cleveland, Tenn., appears among the top banks in the nation in a list that appeared in June issue of the American Bankers Association Banking Journal.

The Bank of Cleveland ranked 88th out of 3,072 banks in the category of non-sub chapter S commercial banks with consolidated assets between $100 million and $3 billion. Of the Top 100 banks, the Bank of Cleveland ranked eighth in capital strength.

“It is always an honor to be recognized, especially on the national level,” said Scott Taylor, president and CEO of Bank of Cleveland. “Key contributors to our success are our experienced and knowledgeable management team, a dedicated staff and a loyal customer base.”

He said the bank located in Bradley County concentrates its efforts there. “In addition, we like to keep things simple. We take in deposits and make loans. We have done that for decades and it is the banking style we all know.

“We haven’t ventured into subprime lending, highly leveraged second mortgages or other exotic loan products. We are just local bankers doing what we know best. The simplistic approach has worked for the last 22 years and we will continue on the same path.”

Kenco Logistic gets Whirlpool award

Kenco Logistic Services LLC, a third-party logistics company, has been named the warehousing supplier of the year by Whirlpool Corp., a leading manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances.

“Kenco’s performance in measurable performance as well as subjective areas — such as ‘ease of doing business’ and ‘management strength’ — is top notch all the way,” said Kevin A. O’Meara, director, supply chain operations, NAR Supply Chain, Whirlpool Corp.

Kenco provides Whirlpool with warehousing, product customization, returns processing and light repair services at locations throughout the United States and Canada.

Utility district gets loan for extensions

The Eastside Utility District has closed on a more than $14 million loan through the Tennessee Utility Public Building Authority loan program to improve existing water lines and add additional infrastructure, TUPBA officials have announced.

Some of the loan will finance a new 48-inch water intake line that will allow the utility to meet increasing demands for water in the area. Part of the loan will also go to refinance outstanding debt at a lower interest rate.

Eastside Utility serves more than 17,000 residences and businesses in Hamilton and Bradley counties.
