Chattanooga Market hosts Home and Garden Show

Erika Moore drove down from Cleveland, Tenn., with her husband and two children to come to the Chattanooga Market and take advantage of the Home and Garden Show.

“It’s good that people can come in and get home-grown vegetables,” said Mrs. Moore after purchasing mint and a natural soap from the Possum Creek Herb Farm in Soddy-Daisy.

“It’s good for the community and for the environment,” she added.

On Sunday the Chattanooga Market held its first Home and Garden Show to highlight some of the products already available in the market, said Paul Smith, general manager of the market.

“We wanted to let Chattanooga know that some of the best growers and products are here in town,” he said. “We picked up a couple of extra vendors specifically because of this event.”

“When we are here every Sunday we always bring like the four-inch plants, a little bit smaller plants so people can put them in smaller containers,” said Michele Brown, owner of Possum Creek Herb Farm. “But this week we brought gallon containers and some different window boxes filled with herbs so you basically have a garden in a box, you take it home and you are ready to go.”

Signal Mountain resident Carolyn Vallard said she wanted to take her granddaughters visiting from Florida to the Chattanooga Market.

“I think the (Home and Garden Show) is a good idea,” Ms. Vallard said while she looked at some red raspberry plants. “People can come and get everything at one place.”

Ms. Brown said the event attracted people to the market she hadn’t seen before.

“They came for plants, but I think they went home with much more,” she added.
