Pamela Branum
Hospital Corpsman Senior Chief Pamela A. Branum, USN (FMF) passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, while on deployment with the USNS Comfort on humanitarian missions. She had been recently stationed at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Va., as the Operational Support Officer, Senior Enlisted Leader to the Director of Administrations.
Senior Chief Branum proudly served her country from September 1986 until June 2, 2009. Senior Chief’s service includes Camp Pendleton Hospital; Guam Hospital; Staff Instructor, Chemical and Biological Warfare Team Camp Lejeune, N.C.; March 2003 deployment to Iraq; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba with the Joint Chief of Staff; and Pensacola Naval Hospital.
She touched the lives of countless sailors and marines all over the world with an exceptional ability to deeply inspire others with her seemingly endless abilities and personality. She loved her family and friends dearly and will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by grandfathers, Thomas E. Branum and Edward Dee Hargis.
She is survived by her parents, Larry Branum and Claudette Wade; sister, Rhonda Keith, and her husband, Lane Keith; brothers, Chris Wade and Todd Branum; nephew, Kirian Keith, stepbrother, David Green; grandmothers, Martha Branum-Flowers and Betty L. Hargis, and many aunts, uncles, cousins.
The family will receive friends for visitation from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at the North C hapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Oakwood Baptist Church, located on Bonny Oaks, Highway 153, Chattanooga, with Chaplain Cynthia Kane officiating.
Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery.

Henry Crumbliss Jr.
Henry “Sandy” Crumbliss Jr., 74, of Lookout Mountain, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, June 7, 2009, with his loving family by his side.
Sandy was the third of five generations to graduate from Baylor School (’53). He graduated from Dartmouth College (’57) and went to work with his father, Henry, at Henry Crumbliss Yarns Inc., which was founded in 1932. He was later joined in the business by his two sons. He retired in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Helen Ellis Crumbliss; and his brother, Lawrence Ellis “Buzzy” Crumbliss.
Sandy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Elizabeth “Beth” Anderson Crumbliss; his two sons, Clay (Gina) and Bruce (Cindy), both of Chattanooga; and his daughter, Helen (Craig) Chambers, of Houston, Texas. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, James Clay Jr., Elizabeth Brooke, Henry Bruce, Parker Patricia, Lauren Elizabeth, and Isabel Newell, all of whom he loved dearly.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of Memorial Hospital Cardiac Rehab Center.

Hazel Freeman
Hazel Louise Freeman, 77, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at her residence.
She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and of the Church of God faith. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell A. Freeman Sr.; son, Paul Allen Freeman; and grandson, Timothy Dale Moore. She was a loving, giving mother and cared for everyone she met.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Cross; sons, Robert Lee Moore Sr., Terrell A. Freeman, Jr., Donald Ray Freeman Sr., Charlie C. Freeman, Ronald Wayne Freeman and Michael Eugene Freeman; sister, Betty Jones, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Billy Fowler officiating.
Burial will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Chris Pierce, Eric Moore, Terry Freeman, Chris Shannon, Don Freeman and Arthur Cross serving as pallbearers.

Doug Parsons
Johnnie Douglas “Doug” Parsons, 72, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009, following a lengthy illness.
Doug was a member of Stuart Heights Baptist Church and was retired from Signal Mountain Cement Co. and later retired from Chattanooga Armature Works. Doug was past Master of Hill City Masonic Lodge 603 F&AM. He had a heart for the poor and for many years volunteered with HaCoBACare Ministries distributing food for the needy.
Doug was a son of the late Leon and Margaret Parsons and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Louis and David Parsons.
Survivors include his wife, Betty McGovern Parsons; daughters, Karen (Randall) Delashmitt, of Chattanooga and Susan (Charles) Holland, of Leaburg, Ore.; sisters, Pam Haynes, of Chattanooga and Ada Hale, of Tracy City; one brother, Bill (Cindy) Parsons, of Tracy City; six grandchildren, Jon (Casey) Delashmitt, Josh Delashmitt, Stephen Delashmitt, Carri (Demetri) Maounis, Lea Holland and Noley Holland; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Delashmitt and Kendall Delashmitt; three sisters-in-law, Nancy (Gene) Oliver, Cecelia Parsons and Linda Brooks; several nieces and nephews.

Billy Gene Roddy, 78, of Sale Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 6, 2009.
He was of the Baptist faith, a Teamster and a local business owner.
He was preceded in death by parents, Richard and Ethel Miller Roddy; three brothers, Crawford “Dobie”, Leland “Fuzzy” and Frazier; two sisters, Bertha Elkins and Retha Griffith.
Survivors: wife, Sabra Roddy; children, Larry (Gaye), Steve (Elaine), Carol, William “Billy Tub”, Cory and Susan (Bobby) Kean; brothers, Agnew “Pappy” and Jennings “Tub”; sisters, Tonita “Tootsie”, Lindsay and Wanda Marler; grandchildren, Jonathon, Heather, Amanda, Allison and Sarah; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be noon today in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Bolton officiating.

Helen Sabin
Helen Pearl Sabin, 92, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 7, 2009.
Mrs. Sabin was born in Boulder, Colo., to Hiel and Bernice Hull. She graduated from Burbank High School then Life Bible College in 1937. She married Howard V. Sabin on May 12, 1948 in Burbank, Calif. Mrs. Sabin was a charter member of Burbank Foursquare Church. She taught high school and college Sunday school, served with her husband as church organist and pianist and sang in the choir. She was also active in PTA and Cub Scouts during her children’s school years. She was employed as a security officer for Bendix Industries then as an assistant manager at VandeKamps Credit Union, retiring in 1978.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; son, Dennis Sabin; and two sisters, Dora Eisele and Dorothy James.
Surviving are her son, Norm (Pat) Sabin, of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Daris (Kent) Freeman, Kelsey Sabin, Zak (Traci) Sabin, Michael Sabin and Matt Sabin; four great-grandchildren, Josh Longbrook, Madyson Sabin, Azzeem Sabin and O’Ryon Sabin.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.

Elizabeth F. White Stone, 92, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009.

She was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Curtis Stone Sr.; son, Richard “R.C.” Curtis Stone Jr.; grandson, Kelly Stone.
Survivors include her three sisters, Lorene Hanes, of Lookout Mountain, Evelyn Gaither, of Soddy-Daisy, and Alene Howell of Cleveland, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews.

Marvene “Mart” Thompson, 70, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009.

William Alexander Westmoreland, infant son of Rachel Westmoreland, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009.

Jane Wioland
Jane Miller Wioland, 88, of Chattanooga, died Saturday, June 6, 2009.
A Chattanooga native, she was the last surviving charter member of St. Thaddaeus Episcopal Church and sang in the choir there for several years. She retired from BellSouth after 37 years of service.
Surviving are her husband, Albert G. Wioland; sister, Josephine Howard; sister-in-law, Jane Miller; nephews, Brian, Scott and Steve Howard.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Jones officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

PIKEVILLE — James A. “Jim” Hale, 87, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at his daughter's home in Pikeville.
Jim worked for Bledsoe County Highway Department as a truck driver. He loved to farm. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Stella Hale; wife, Katie Hale; brother, Clarance Hale; sister, Anna Lou Pendergrass; and a son-in-law, Joe Nipper.
Jim is survived by and will be sorely missed by his three sons, Gordon (Alice) Hale, Clifford (Erma) Hale and Wayne (Debbie) Hale; daughter, Anita Nipper, all of Pikeville; brothers, Herbert (Alice) Hale and Lester Hale, both of Pikeville; sister, Virginia (Charlie) LeCroy, of Soddy-Daisy; 10 grandchildren, Ronald, David, Patrick Hale, all of Florida, Mike, Chip, Dewayne, Eddie Hale, Leslie and Jennifer Nipper, Kirby Rice, all of Pikeville; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bryan, Linda, Matthew and Elizabeth Jordan.
A celebration of his life will be held in the chapel of Pikeville Funeral Home at 2 p.m. CDT Wednesday, June 10, 2009, with Jim Mac Foust and Rex Ogle officiating.

SPRING CITY — Russell Reed, 73, died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at his residence.
Born in Cumberland County, Tenn., he was the son of the late Howard and Lona Garrison Reed. Russell was a graduate of Spring City High School. He worked as a mechanic for SSM Industries in Spring City for 55 years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelia Ann Motes; sister, Anna Jewett; and brother, Ray Reed.
Survivors include his daughter Vickie (Howard) Arnold, of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; sister, Hazel Monday, of Spring City and Bonnie Galloway, of Grandview; brother, Ralph Reed, of Grandview; grandchildren, Laprelle Motes, of Spring City, Ron Breeding and Nicole Hedrick, both of Oliver Springs; and great-grandchildren, Kala Janow and Hadyn Hedrick.
