Northwest's Delic has full camp card

TUNNEL HILL, Ga. -- Going to summer camp once was a common experience for teenagers. It still is for Nermin Delic.

Delic, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound senior-to-be defensive end and tight end for Northwest Whitfield High School, will have participated in seven college prospect camps by July 12, giving recruiters plenty of chances to see what he can do on the football field. Delic has already been to camps at Clemson and Georgia and plans to participate in others at North Carolina State, Maryland, Vanderbilt and Lousville.

"I don't know where he's going to go yet, but he's going to be busy," Northwest coach Mike Falluer said. "He had a great camp at Georgia. I was there watching and he really did well. They're looking at him as a defensive end, and if he were 255 instead of 220, I think they'd offer him right now."

Delic already has scholarship offers from Maryland, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Marshall and MTSU. Falleur believes Delic has only begun to reach his potential.

"We've had some good players here, and I really believe Nermin is the best football player I've coached at Northwest," he said. "The recruiting services list him as a three-star player, but how do they know? When coaches watch him play, they know what he can do."

Freeman to West Hills

According to Ridgeland coach Mark Mariakis, two-time All-North Georgia selection Terryl Freeman will attend West Hills Junior College in Coalinga, Calif., on a football scholarship.

Freeman rushed for more than 2,000 yards as a junior and battled injuries during his senior season but still amassed 1,100 yards.

Mariakis said West Hills has a reputation as one of the stronger juco programs in the talent-rich state.

"They're really excited to get Terryl," Mariakis said. "The coach told me that all nine of his graduating sophomores earned scholarships to four-year schools this year. It's really a good program."

Eastland still waiting

Ringgold fullback Martez Eastland, who is ranked the No. 2 player at his position by Rivals.com, will likely wait until the fall before his collegiate choice becomes clear, according to Tigers coach Robert Akins.

"He's using this summer to work on his grades, and that's something he knows he has to get up before he'll get more offers," Akins said. "He's taken the SAT and will likely take it again. He's dedicated himself to becoming eligible."

Eastland has offers from Alabama-Birmingham, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Western Carolina and is considering Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, South Carolina and LSU. He will attend a July 18 camp at Georgia.
