Jazzah Boston

Jazzah Boston, 10 months, passed on Monday, June 15, 2009, at a local hospital.

Vera Dyer

Vera Lee Brown Dyer, 85, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on her birthday, Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Life Care Center of Red Bank.

Born in Venice, Ohio, and later relocated to Chattanooga where she lived for most of her life. She had been employed by Chandler Fabrics and was a member of East Chattanooga Church of God.

She was the daughter of the late, Tom and Rachel Brown and was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Dyer Smith; grandson, Jeffrey Keil; sister, Opal Sherrill; and brother, James Brown.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, J.C. Dyer; two sons, T. Wayne (Mary Lynn) Dyer, Chattanooga and Bobby (Betty) Dyer, Harrison; four daughters, Charlotte Keil, Antioch, Tenn., Carolyn Delashmitt, Chattanooga, Linda (Conrad) DeFriese, LaGrange, Ga. and Peggy (Orville) Donahoo, Harrison; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Fred Smith and the Rev. T. Wayne Dyer officiating.

Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Willie Ellis

Willie B. Ellis, 72, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at a local hospital.

Evelyn Harvey

Evelyn Maxey Harvey, of Hixson, passed away June 15, 2009.

She worked at Home Builders Association for over 25 years and loved every minute. She never loved anyone as much as she loved the three of us girls, her daughters. She was a pistol; there was no doubt about it. She fought to the end. She was an amazing woman.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Anita Louise Harpe Langston; mother, Louise Maxey; father, Henry Hodge Maxey; and brother, Jimmy Maxey.

Survivors include her daughters, Karen Le Harpe and Carol Robin Harpe. She also had seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild who loved her.

She will have a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday at Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, Ga.

She wanted to go home and will be accompanied by those who loved her.

Harold North Sr.

Harold L. North Sr., 82, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, at his residence.

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia area. Mr. North retired as vice president of the Card-Monroe Corporation. He had been involved in the international sales of textile machinery since 1957. Mr. North attended the University of Tennessee, University of Chattanooga, and the Advanced Management Program of Harvard University. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Scott, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. North Sr., and two brothers, John H. North Jr. and William L. “Bill” North.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances Starr North; children, Harold L. “Hal” North Jr. (Teresa), Kevin Scott North, and Amy Starr North; and grandchildren, Ensign Harold L. “Tripp” North III, La Jolla, Calif., and Grant Gibson “Gib” North. He is also survived by his brothers, Fredrick L. North, M. Lamar North (Judy), Richard B. North (Ann), and Ben L. North (Mildred); and sisters-in-law, Maxine North and Mary North, all of Rossville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home chapel with Ben Haden officiating.

Interment will follow in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Kathrine Lynn Overturf, 48, of Chattanooga, died Saturday, June 13, 2009.

Mrs. Overturf was born in Detroit, Mich. She was a member of Elk's Lodge and was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Bruszewski.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley Overturf Jr., Chattanooga; mother, Donna Bruszewski, Lexington, Ky.; four brothers, Anthony Bruszewski, Colorado; James Bruszewski, Indiana; Tom (Faye) Bruszewski, Virginia; Richard (Cindy) Bruszewski, Lexington; two stepsons, Josh and Daniel Overturf, Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Melinda (Bart) McClure, Signal Mountain; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. James Blackman officiating.

PIKEVILLE — Odessa Addleman, 87, died Monday, June 15, 2009.

She was of the Baptist faith. Preceding her in death was her husband, the Rev. Howard Addleman.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy (Buddy) Mitchell, of Pikeville, Sue (Don) Redd, of Fort Myers, Fla.; two sons, Dan (Diane) Addleman, of Lakeland, Fla., and Marc (Debbie) Addleman, of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Carmen Duttry, of Pennsylvania; one sister-in-law, Frances (John) Dunworth; and one brother-in-law, Joe Mollica, of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. CDT in the funeral home chapel with burial following in Pikeville Cemetary.

Glen Goggins

RINGGOLD — Glen L. Goggins, 65, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, in a local health care facility.

Glen had lived most of his life in the Ringgold area, was of the Baptist faith, and served with the National Guard for more than six years.

Survivors include his mother, Winnie Keel and stepfather, Samuel Keel, of Ringgold; aunt, Annie L. Thomas, Graysville, Ga.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with the Rev. Kyle Taylor officiating.

Ann McGill

LaFAYETTE — Elizabeth Ann Hegwood McGill, 74, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at her home.

She was a lifelong resident of LaFayette, and a member of LaFayette First Baptist Church. She graduated from LaFayette High School. Ann was a master of cosmetology and owned Top Shop and Headquarters Beauty Shops in LaFayette. She worked as a state inspector and supervisor for the Barber and Cosmetology Dept. for the Georgia Secretary of State for over 15 years.

After her retirement, she spent time with her family and friends at her home in the Naomi community. Ann was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Deforrest “Babe” and Addie Lou Williams Hegwood; husband, Bill McGill.

Survived by her daughter and her husband, Lou Anne and Randy Cochran, LaFayette; son and his wife, W.E. “Butch” and Ann Sims McGill, of Cave Springs; brothers, Ross (Mary) Hegwood, Steve (Margret) Hegwood, Danny (Frances) Hegwood, Tim (Pam) Hegwood and Mark (Susan) Hegwood; grandchildren, Jennifer Cochran Schrader, Terence Cochran, Hayley Cochran, Ashley McGill, Chris McGill, Chad Cochran, Aranda Cochran; great-grandchild, Leah Schrader; several nieces and nephews also survive.

She will be honored and her life celebrated at noon today at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Service will be conducted by the Rev. C.F. Strickland and Rev. Pat Davis.

Pallbearers are Chris McGill, Terence Cochran, Steve Cunningham, Norm Hodge, Jonathan Hegwood, Chase Hegwood.

Interment in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Jim McMillan

RINGGOLD — James “Jim” Denton McMillan died Sunday, June 7, 2009.

Born and raised in Knoxville, he was a Vietnam veteran having enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Afterward he embarked on a 34-year career in Industrial Electrical Sales and Management. He would most want to be remembered for his co-ownership of Coyote Rodders Supply selling hot rod parts.

He is survived by his wife, Claudette McMillan, of Ringgold; daughter, Aaron McMillan, of California; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Kelly McMillan, of New Mexico, Justin Robinson, of Colorado, and Jonathan and Jamie McMillan, of Nevada; four grandchildren, Meygan, of New Mexico, Elisha, of Colorado, Marlo and Dane, both of Nevada.

Memorial services will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, in the funeral home chapel.

Patti McMillen

RINGGOLD — Patti Louise Kittle McMillen, 92, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009.

She was a lifelong resident of Catoosa County and enjoyed her time fishing and camping at Lake Kathy and Lake Chickamauga. She was a member of Ringgold United Methodist Church, Catoosa County Library Board of Directors, and The Catoosa County Garden Club. She worked for the Catoosa County Board of Education and Catoosa County Probate Judge before retiring in 1967.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry B. “Mac” McMillen; parents, John Patrick and Effie Lee Gordy Kittle; son, Larry K. McMillen; sister, Marion Lockett; and brother, Ralph Kittle.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Pat and Marie McMillen and Tom and Ann McMillen all of Ringgold; devoted neighbor and friend Jessie Thornton; grandchildren, Lisa Temple, LeAnn Engle, Reed McMillen, Jessica Parker, Casey McMillen and Jamey McMillen; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Ringgold United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Purrington and the Rev. Michael Morton officiating.

Interment to follow in Anderson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 8 p.m. today, June 17, 2009, and Thursday prior to the service.

J.B. Nance

CHICKAMAUGA — J.B. Nance, 29, departed this life suddenly, Monday, June 15, 2009 in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

He had lived in the Chickamauga area for most of his life and was of the Baptist faith. J.B. was an employee of Longhorn Restaurant, Hilton Head, S.C. and Pigeon Forge, Tenn. J.B. attended Gordon Lee School and graduated in 1999 from Phoenix High School, Dalton, Ga. He liked the mountains of southeast Tennessee, loved to fish and watch University of Alabama football.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Alice Nance and George Huey Jr.

Survivors include his loving family: parents, Mike and Georgia Nance, Chickamauga; sister, Johnna Nance, Chickamauga; brother, Joe Nance, Los Angelas, Calif.; grandmother, Sarah Huey, Rossville; daughter, Leightta Emily Nance, Dalton, Ga.; special aunt, Edith Nance, Rossville; uncles and aunts, Freddy and Angela Huey, Chickamauga, Johnny and Sheila Brown, Ringgold, Robert Huey, Ringgold, Jim and Teresa Nance, Chickamauga, Lanny and Dennie Jo Jones, Branford, Fla.; many cousins and numerous friends and neighbors.

Mary Sitton

CHICKAMAUGA — Mary O. “Polly” Sitton, 87, departed this life Monday, June 15, 2009.

She was born in Gordon County to the late William and Octavia Thornbrough, and was preceded in death by her husband, Mills Payton Sitton. Polly was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church in Chickamauga.

Survivors include her children, Mary Ann Plotke, of Gillette, Wyo., Lamar Sitton, of Chickamauga, Edward Sitton, of LaFayette, James Sitton of Nicholsville, Ga., Rhonda Liles, of Fayettville, Ark.; siblings, Raymond Thornbrough, of Soddy-Daisy, Jip Edwards, of Nicklesville, Ga.; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, in the chapel with the Rev. Steve Camp and the Rev. Bill Casteel officiating.

Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens South.

Family will receive friends after 10 a.m. today, and prior to the service Thursday.

Beverly Tittle

ROSSVILLE — Beverly Ann Tittle, 73, formerly of Gastonia, N.C., departed this life Tuesday, June 16, 2009.

She was born in Laconia, N.H. to the late Walter and Doris Bosworth, and she was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Carder; son, Scott William Tittle; and her husband, Harvey Tittle Sr.

She retired after 21 years of Child Care from Creative Day School and Assembly of Faith Daycare in Gastonia, and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Stanley, N.C.

Survivors include her children, Harvey Tittle Jr., of Rossville, David “Moe” Tittle, of East Ridge, Doris Ann Taylor, of Belmont, N.C.; sister, Nancy Martin, of Kokomo, Ind.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, in the chapel with the Rev. David Stancil officiating.

Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today and prior to the service Thursday.

SUMMERVILLE — Patricia Ann Weems, 53, died Sunday, June 14, 2009.

The funeral service is 10 a.m. today, June 17, 2009, at Mason Funeral Home.
