Bill Berry
William H. “Bill” Berry, 80, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Erlanger Hospital.
Bill was born on Oct. 29, 1928, in Knoxville. At 17, Mr. Berry joined the Army and served six years in 304 Signal Battalion in Italy, Japan and Korea. Having received his high school diploma in the Army, he graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Industrial Arts degree from ETSU in 1975 at the age of 44. He received a Masters Degree of Economics from UTK in 1979. He was employed by TVA from 1952 until his retirement. His last position was Economist for the Transportation Division of TVA in Chattanooga. He was very active in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Chattanooga, Privateer Yacht Club, Chickamauga Sailing Club, member of the Downtown YMCA, and the Fontana and Calderwood Dam Reunion Groups.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Wilhoit Berry; father, William Patrick Berry; brother, Robert “Bob” Berry; and sister, Barbara Berry Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha DeRieux Berry; son, Walter Berry, of Chattanooga; daughters, Barbara Berry Jordan, Diana Berry Solomon, of Chattanooga, Libby Berry James, of Waverly, Tenn.; sister, Pat Berry Thomas, of Paducah, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the North Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Briere officiating.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
A further celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Chattanooga at later date.

Helen Camp
Helen Alverson Camp, 92, of East Ridge, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in Ocala, Fla.
She was a native of Sherwood Tenn., and a daughter of the late Robert and Nancy Jane Catchins Pendergrass. Mrs. Camp had been a Bridal Consultant with Miller Borthers Department Store in Chattanooga for many years. She was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband, John Camp, Ocala; daughter, Diane Alverson Salmon, Roswell, Ga.; three grandchildren, Don Salmon, Atlanta, Sheri Salmon Richardson, Nashville and Todd Salmon, Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Blake McKay Salmon, Atlanta and Ashlyn Isabelle Richardson, Nashville; and stepdaughters, Ethel Roberts and Linda Van Ornum, both of Ocala.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joseph Reed officiating.
Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Larry Craig
Charles Larry Craig, 68, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2009.
He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was employed by Southern Champion Tray, LP.
He was preceded in death by his father, E.R. Craig and survived by his mother, Louise Craig, of Chattanooga.
Larry also is survived by his wife, Linda Craig; three children, Russ Craig and David Craig, of Signal Mountain, and Cindy Jones, of Hixson; two stepsons, Ricky Murphy and Gary Murphy, both of Ringgold; a brother, Marshall Craig, of East Ridge; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 22, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. and Hon. Samuel H. Payne officiating.
Burial will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Denvil Ronald Daniel, 69, of East Ridge, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Ronald was saved one week before he passed away.
He was formerly employed with Huskey Sheet Metal.
He was preceded in death by his father, Denvil Adam Daniel and a brother, Dwight Daniel.
Survivors include his wife, Cassie Daniel; daughter, April Daniel, of East Ridge; son, Michael Odom and his wife, Beverly, of Ider, Ala.; three grandchildren, Chloe Kennedy, Alex Ward and Kamron Ward; mother, Helen Reese Daniel, of East Ridge; three sisters, Sue Bethune, of Trenton, Ga., Debbie Hartline, of East Ridge and Judy Hicks, of Tiftonia; several nieces and nephews.

Pete Havner
Charles Robert “Pete” Havner, 59, of Signal Mountain, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, in a local hospital.
Pete was born on July 9, 1949. He was a loving father and husband to Gwen for 38 years. Pete loved to work and he enjoyed helping others as much as he could. He loved his family and cared very much for each of them. He will live in our hearts and memory for all the good things he did, and he will be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Havner; two sons, Robert Havner and Brent Havner, both of Signal Mountain; one granddaughter, Brianna Havner, of Signal Mountain; three sisters, Ann Strickland, of Red Bank, Betty Moore, of Dawnsonville, Ga., and Carolyn Thomas, of Signal Mountain; sister-in-law, Gay Brown, of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews.

Fred Ross Jr., 68, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009.
He was born to the late Fred Ross Sr. and Constance Ross. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washingson High School, devoted member and Deacon of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed by Roadbuilders and Gamble Construction Companies and owner of Fred’s Garage.
Survivors, devoted wife of 49 years, LaVerne Ross; sons, Fred III (Carol) and Leslie (Kimberly) Ross; mother, Constance Ross; siblings, Charles (Anne) Ross, Cherrye Cunnigan, Clarence (Lela) Ross, Mary Ross; grandchildren, Roderick (Nanette), Alexis (Chris), Arielle, Cierra, Lindsey, Chelse’, Landon; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Mildred Ross
Mildred Ellen Ross, 91, of Hixson, went to be with her Lord Thursday, June 18, 2009, in Chattanooga.
Mildred was born Feb. 10, 1918 in Indian Falls, N.Y., the daughter of the late Harold A. and Adella Fern Lester Meiser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Vincent R. Ross.
Mildred was a graduate of Practical Bible Training School in Binghamton, N.Y. She worked as a home missionary in Kentucky and Tennessee and then, along with her husband joined the Tennessee Mountain Missions where she taught bible in schools for 20 years and worked with children in summer bible camps. She continued her work career at Bryan College where she was a food services supervisor. She enjoyed sharing her cooking talents with students and faculty and was a member of the Red Hats.
While living in Dayton she was an active member of Grace Bible Church. Upon moving to Chattanooga in 1993, she joined Signal Mountain Bible Church.
Mildred is survived by her daughters, Ruth Ross and Rebekah Ross, both of Hixson, Mary (Walter) Van Dusen, Evensville, Tenn.; son, Peter (Cathy) Ross, Elizabethton, Tenn.; sister, Kathryn Gilbert, Bason, N.Y.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mildred will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Gary Phillips, the Rev. Tim Schoap and the Rev. Jim Fickley officiating.
Burial will be next to her husband in Rhea Memory Gardens.

Gwendolyn Jean Tittle, 51, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009, at her home.
Gwendolyn was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her father, Harold Odom.
Survivors include her husband, Charlie Tittle; one daughter, Teresa Johnson, Georgia; two stepdaughters, Stephanie Tittle and Jennifer Lamb, both of Shelbyville, Tenn.; mother, Jeanann Dompke, Illinois; sister, Dee Talley, Texas; brother, Lucky Odom, Texas; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

George Troxell Jr.
George W. Troxell Jr., 91, of Aiken, S.C., died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Carriage Hills Living Center.
A native of the Chattanooga area, Mr. Troxell moved to Aiken, S.C. in 2002. He worked for the WPA in the 1940s building roads across the South Pittsburg Mountain. He drove a mining truck and owned the mining commissary. In 1950, he moved to Lupton City, Tenn., to manage the Dixie Yarns Commissary. He then joined Red Food Stores (Bi-Lo) as a store manager for 25+ years. Mr. Troxell retired to take care of his wife, Mary, and enjoy hunting, fishing and gardening. He cherished time with his family, especially his granddaughters, then great-grandsons. He was a member of Brooks Memorial United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ridley Troxell; and his daughter, Beth Troxell Bennett.
He is survived by his daughter, Janet Troxell Dunn; son-in-law, Larkin Bennett; granddaughters, Tammy (Freddie) Shafer and Jamie (Tim) Herndon; and great-grandsons, Cole and Colin Shafer and T.J. Herndon.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the North Chapel with the Rev. Danny Lewis from Center Grove Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the North Chapel.
Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Roger Gish, Tim Herndon, Norman Rollins Jr., Roger Rollins, Freddie Shafer and Mike Troxell.

Edward A. Tyler, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at his residence following a long battle with cancer.
He was a native of the Lakeview Community and had lived most of his life in Chattanooga. Mr. Tyler was a retired Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War with 22 years of service. He was a faithful member of Daisy Church of Christ were he served as church treasurer and song leader.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia Tyler; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Kim Tyler and son, John Tyler, Chattanooga; grandson, Zachary Tyler, Chattanooga; sisters, Avanelle Skelton, Dallas, Texas, Dorothy Hill, Rock Spring, and Essie Schewe, Dallas, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Minister Jerry Clements officiating.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Martha Keith; brother, Billy Keith; and sister, Delilah Haley.

LaFAYETTE — Sharron “Sherri” Linn Upton Noble, 59, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, after a 17 year courageous battle with cancer.
She was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area and was a member of LaFayette First United Methodist Church, where she was very active. She was an advocate of the American Cancer Society, a member of the LaFayette Woman’s Club, the Red Hat Society and Emmaus Community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dillard and Louella Upton.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Noble, of LaFayette; two children, Amy and Gary Austin and Kelly Noble, all of Ringgold, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Saundra Upton, of LaFayette; five grandchildren, Baylie, Nicholas and Krista Smith and Karli and Aaron Austin; two nieces, Stephanie and Serina Upton; and nephew, Zach Radetski.
