The two-day Chattanooga Bass Bug fly-fishing tournament drew to an end Friday afternoon as an overall success.
It certainly was for Mac McGee, whose Choo Choo Fly and Tackle store sponsored the inaugural event along with Outdoor Chattanooga. McGee and fellow Chattanoogan Frank Duff earned the first-place prize.
"We had a couple of streaks early this morning and then again about midday," McGee said. "Overall it was just an outstanding day today."
He and Duff caught their limit the second day and added to their lead, finishing with a two-day total of 23.25 pounds on 10 fish.
Michael Yelton and Paul Thompson of North Carolina finished second with 13.85 pounds. Clay Watson of Chattanooga and Joe Brown of Chickamauga, Ga., placed third at 6.88 pounds.
Relying mainly on word of mouth to gain interest, the first-year tournament had only 10 teams register for the competition.
"We probably got started organizing this a little later than we should've, but it turned out well," McGee said. "Hopefully next year we'll have as many as 20 (teams)."
All proceeds from the tournament are going to the fishing fund for the Children's Home/Chambliss Shelter.
