Lena Baker

Lena P. Baker, 74, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at a local hospital.

Michael Campbell

Michael Lynn Campbell, 56, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, June 21, 2009.

As a young man, he was a machinist for Precision Tool and Die in Flintstone, Ga. This job fostered his love of woodworking and everything mechanical. He has worked as a mechanical engineer for TVA at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant for 29 years. He was a member of a small group Bible study of Red Bank United Methodist Church and loved them all dearly.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lester and Grace Selvage and Walker and Flora Mae Campbell.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Campbell, of Red Bank; daughter, Valerie Campbell, of Red Bank; parents, Tracy and Betty Campbell, of Hixson; best friend and close as a brother, Dewayne (Debbie) Mullis; nephew, David (Maria) Thurmond and precious son, Jared; aunts, Ruth Black, Lois (Henry) Stephens, Brenda (Sonny) Henson, Willa Jean Huff and Jane Sheets; uncles, Kenneth Selvage and Thomas Campbell; and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Lambert officiating.

Interment will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Red Bank United Methodist Church for Mission Construction Projects.

Grace Corbly

Grace Stringer Corbly, 98, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009, at her home.

She was a longstanding member of Central Church of Christ. Mrs. Corbly was retired from Chattanooga City Schools as a teacher after 35 years of service, having served most of those years at Missionary Ridge Elementary School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Corbly; and two brothers, Frank Stringer and Paul Stringer.

Survivors include her son, Dennis Martin Corbly Jr. and wife, Jane, of Naples, Fla., and Loudon, Tenn.; grandson, Brett G. Corbly and wife, Christine, of Lexington, Ky.; grandaughters, Meredith Jane Brewer and husband, Ian, of Cold Spring, Ky., and Paige Candice Buffington and husband Adam, of Columbus, Ohio; one great-grandson, William Joseph Brewer, of Cold Spring, Ky.; one sister, Ruth Floyd, of Nashville; one nephew, David Floyd, of Nashville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Minister David Schonhoff officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Judy Early

Judy Carol Wilbanks Early, 57, of Chattanooga went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 20, 2009.

She was a Christian. A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Mrs. Early worked as an LPN for 32 years and was employed at Valley Hospital and Cumberland Hall.

She was preceded in death her husband, Tommy Early; parents, Helen and Morell Wilbanks; sisters, Josphine Johnson and Patricia Forrester; and brother, Billy Wilbanks.

Survivors include her loving son, Jason W. Smith and wife Rachel; David Wilbanks; brother, Gary Morell Wilbanks, Wesley Wilbanks and Karl Brady; sister, Wanda Thompson; grandson, Tysen Smith and many other friends and relatives.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 25, in the funeral home chapel.

Edith Evans

Edith Perry Evans, 89, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, in a local healthcare facility.

She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church for more than 51 years. She had been a hairdresser for over 30 years in the Chattanooga area and was employed with Cinderella Beauty Shop for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Erskin Evans; parents, George W. Perry Sr. and Jodie Perry; brothers, George W. Perry Jr. and Jack Perry; sisters, Mamie Ruth Wilson and Betty Pugh.

Survivors include her sister, Elizabeth Coole, and her husband, Dennis, of Chattanooga; and a brother, James Perry, and his wife, Shirley, of Chattanooga, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 404 S. Moore Road with the Rev. Lanny R. Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

John Harms Jr.

Herman “John” Harms Jr., 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, June 19, 2009, in a local hospital.

Mr. Harms was a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and attended New Heights Baptist Church.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

He was born and raised in New York, N.Y., enlisted in the Air Force and married his wife of 52 years, Marjorie Bice Harms, in Orlando, Fla. They both taught dance lessons for Arthur Murrays in 1956, before moving to Atlanta. In 1965 he moved his family to Chattanooga and worked for the Pillsbury Co. until retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Bice Harms; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ricky Miller; son, Randall K. Harms; granddaughters, Hannah Crosland and Amber Paige Harms; and grandsons, Eric and Joshua Crosland.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Don Shipman and Pastor Marvin Jones officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Amy Haskew

Amy Elizabeth Haskew, age 34, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2009.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Darrell Davenport officiating.

The family and friends will depart the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in a procession to Chattanooga Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Johnson, Greg Johnson, Foster Yates, Russell Bean, Phil Alsbrook and Boomer Brown.

Debora Ives

Debora Ives, 44, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 at her home.

She was born on Jan. 14, 1965.

She is survived by her husband, Brian; children, Brett and Nikki; mother, Rose; three sisters, Christina, Kathy, Lisa; two brothers, Joseph and Chris; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Cofer Cemetery.

Kenneth Keeble

Kenneth Vance Keeble, 66, of Hixson, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009.

Born on July 21, 1942, Kenneth graduated from Friendsville High School in Friendsville, Tenn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving two tours in Vietnam where he was awarded the Military Purple Heart for his wounds he received in battle. Kenneth was a former employee with TVA for 15 years and retired from the city of Chattanooga Fire and Police Services after 17 years of service. Kenneth was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he loved to fish and barbeque.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Cecil Keeble.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bonnie Keeble; children, Tina (Todd) Burgin, Kenneth Glenn (Tarasita) Keeble and Lisa Keeble; grandchildren, Kayla and Krista Burgin, Madison and Mackenzie Keeble; brothers, Dallas Leon Keeble and Lawrence Keeble; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the North Chapel.

Services for Kenneth will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the North Chapel with the Rev. Joel Wood officiating.

Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Linda Keith

Linda Faye Howell Keith, 60, of Chattanooga, fell asleep in death on Saturday, June 20, 2009, in a local hospital.

She was an “excellent woman” (Ruth 3:11), a hard worker, very thoughtful, loved her family, friends and loved her children and they loved her. Most importantly, she loved and worshipped her God Jehovah for 35 years until her death. Praise Jehovah. What a fine lady!

She is survived by her husband, Van E. Keith Sr.; one daughter, Leslie Faye Keith (Eddie) Morgan; two sons, Van E. Keith Jr. and Benjamin Keith; two grandchildren, Chastity and Geno; one great-grandchild, Jolie, all of Chattanooga; three sisters, Jimmie Howell, of Chattanooga, Jeanette Howell, of Compton, Calif., and Pat (Paul) Heard, of Nashville; two brothers, John Ed Howell, of Florida and Eddie Howell, of California; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Brother Charles Williams delivering the discourse.

Helen Maywhort

Helen Maywhort, 93, died on Sunday morning, June 21, 2009, in a Bowling Green, Ky., nursing home.

The Chattanooga resident lived in Cleveland until graduating as Valedictorian from Bradley County High School. After attending the University of Chattanooga and graduating from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, she received her Library of Science degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia. Helen was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and a member of Mensa. She worked as a librarian at the Free Library of Philadelphia and Temple University before moving back to Chattanooga. She worked as the head librarian at The McCallie School for Boys and retired in 1964, after 24 years. From 1987 until 2000, Helen served as the executive secretary for the Chattanooga Half Century Club.

In Chattanooga, Helen was a charter member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church, a Sunday school teacher, and the president and life member of the Women of the Church. In 1988, she was sent by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church to organize a church library in Buenos Aires. Before moving to Kentucky, she was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was an assistant Sunday school teacher. Her church membership moved to First Christian Church in Bowling Green.

Helen was an avid traveler and bridge player. Her love of books was passed on to all she touched.

Survivors include a son, Bill Maywhort, of Colorado Springs, and his wife, Diana; a daughter, Marilyn Keith, of Bowling Green, and her husband, Fred; two grand daughters, Kristin Higdon, of Nashville, and her husband, David, Andrea Scully, of NYC and her husband, Brian; three grandsons, Blair Maywhort, of Parker, Colo., and his wife, Keri, Ryan Keith, of Louisville, and his wife, Beth Ann, Jeff Keith, of Asheville, N.C., and his wife, Rayna; four great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. Also, Lillian Wooten, sister-in-law of Helen, survives.

The funeral will be on Wednesday, June 24, at 2 p.m. at the East Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home, with burial in Forest Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Vivian Phillips

Vivian Koger Phillips, 68, Chattanooga, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, in a local hospital.

She was a born Sept. 9, 1940, in Houston, Texas to the late Fred and Willie Mae Hixson Koger. Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of Gordon Lee High School class of 1959. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Sunnyside Chapter 359, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 945. Mrs. Phillips was also involved with activities of the Alhambra Shrine, the Scottish Rite and the Red Fez club. She was retired from Channel 9, TV station.

Survivors are daughter, Tena Phillips (Stark Greer), Rossville; sister, Barbara Nix, Griffin, Ga.; ex-husband, Ray Phillips; longtime beloved friends, Roy Browning and Barbara Phillips Sparks.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Hon. and Rev. Samuel Payne officiating.

Interment in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Conrad Rigsby

Conrad Rigsby, 86, of Red Bank, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009.

A native of Dayton, he had lived in Red Bank before moving to Charlotte, N.C. with his wife. Mr. Rigsby worked for Dixie Yarns and retired from the Postal Service. He was a WWII Army veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was of the Methodist faith.

Among his survivors are his wife of 67 years, Kathryn Rigsby; daughters, Suzy Davis and G.G. Berta; sons, Mike Rigsby and Jerry Rigsby; grandchildren, Eric, Ember and Tia Rigsby and Ben and Logan Davis.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel.

Interment will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Lillie Russell

Lillie B. Russell, 82, of Chattanooga, departed this life, Thursday, June 18, 2009.

She was a lifelong residence of Chattanooga. She was a member of Greater New Home Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health failed. She worked and retired from Erlanger Medical Center as a nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Russell; parents, Horace and Pearlie Madden, and six brothers.

Survivors include daughters, Janice T. Horn and Raylana I. Russell; grandchildren, Arlyn V. Horn and Vernon D. Horn Jr.; one son-in-law, Vernon D. Horn; sisters, Estella M. Jackson and JoAnn Armstrong. She will be missed by several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.

Funeral service will be noon Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Reuben Strickland Memorial Chapel with Elder Jonas Butts officiating.

Public may view after noon today at Reuben Strickland Memorial Chapel and family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.

Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens.

William Ware

William James Ware, 86, of Apison, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009.

He was born Nov. 13, 1922 to the late Ed and Edith Ware in Apison. He was of the Christian faith and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Christine Ware; son, Harold Lee Ware; several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his two children and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Ware, of Ringgold, Jim and Vickie Ware, of Apison; several brothers and sisters; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow in Plowman Cemetery in Apison.

CLEVELAND — Jarvis Gober, 83 died Friday, June 19, 2009.

CLEVELAND — David Michael 'Goob' Goodner, 52, died Friday, June 19, 2009.

ATHENS — Mary Lou Harris, 79, of the Goodsprings community, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at her residence.

Chester Newman

DUNLAP — Chester “Check” Newman, 79, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, after a lingering illness.

Mr. Newman was a lifelong resident of Dunlap and was of the Church of God faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Neppie Skyles Newman; daughters, Linda Kay Newman Horton; infant daughter, Jennifer Newman; brothers, Otis Miller, Lee Miller, Tom Newman, Frank Newman; sister, Gertrude Thompson.

Survivors include wife, Lorenza Limon Newman; son, Jackie (Susan) Newman; daughter, Lori and special son-in-law, Kevin Tate; brothers, Clyde Newman and Roy Newman, all of Dunlap; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and

nephews.

Dr. James Pickett

GREENBACK — Dr. James Clarke Pickett, 66, passed away Friday, June 19, 2009.

Dr. Pickett was born in Meridian, Miss., graduated high school from Little Creek in Knoxville, attended undergraduate and graduate school, and remains a benefactor at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, attended medical school at the University of Tennessee, Memphis. He was an ER Physician with Emergency Coverage Corporation, and Medical Director of HealthMax, laboratory director with Salex Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alyce Patterson Pickett; and his father, George Tildon Pickett.

Survivors are his wife, Charlotte Thrasher Pickett; his brother, Gaines Tildon (Linda) Pickett, of Edwardsville, Ill.; and his sister, Martha Nell (Don) Woodall, of Hattisburg, Miss.; one niece, Sheri Lynn (Joseph) Flatt, of Edwardsville, Ill.; one nephew, James Todd Pickett, of Milpitas, Calif.; one grandnephew, Ethan Todd Flatt, of Edwardsville, Ill.; and one grandniece, Avery James Flatt, of Edwardsville, Ill.

James Breeden

RINGGOLD — James Lester Breeden, 84, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, at his residence.

A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area, he was a former employee of Cutter Laboratories where he worked for 19 years, and was a member of Ringgold United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Mamie Breeden; son, Danny Breeden; daughter, Janet McAllister Gordon; grandson, Jeff Breeden; sister, Gladyce Chapman.

He is survived by his caregiver, Darlene Layne, of Ringgold; and two granddaughters, Amy and Kim.

Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Monday at Varnell Cemetery in Varnell, Ga., with Brother Tim Layne officiating.

Brenda Hart

ROSSVILLE — Brenda Kay Hart, 52, departed this life Monday, June 22, 2009 at her home.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Curtis Mullins; and daughter, Teresa Kay Woody, and was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include her loving spouse of 13 years, Gary Hart, of Rossville; mother, Dimple Mullins, of Winchester, Tenn.; daughters, Sabrina Marie Woody, Terri Angelia Woody, both of Rossville; brothers, Danny Mullins, of Trenton, Larry Stanley, of Winchester; grandsons, Trey Devonte Woody, Preston Lee Matthews; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 in the chapel with the Rev. James Turnipseed officiating.

Joseph Newberry

RINGGOLD — Joseph “Joe” Newberry, 84, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, June 21, 2009.

He was a lifelong resident of the Ringgold area. He was a Journeyman Electrician and a member of IBEW Local Union 175. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Frances Ashley Newberry.

Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Newberry (Jeff Hoffinger) and Sandra (Bill) Maynor; brother, Herbert Newberry; sister, Elizabeth Stapp, all of Ringgold; two grandchildren and spouses, April (Austin) Garrett and Tyler and (Amy) Maynor; seven great-grandchildren, Meagan Morris, Haley Garrett, Madelyn Garrett, Alexandria Maynor, Tanner Maynor, Richard Bell and Kyrus Hoffinger; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009, in the Wallis-Stewart Chapel with Minister Johnnie L. Statom officiating.

HENAGAR — Anna Corene Robbins Smith, 91, died Monday, June 22, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Smith.

Survivors include, daughters, Glenda Pope, Novie Jane Burton, Henagar, Robin Murdock, Sylvania; daughters and sons-in-law, Mattie and Herbert Morgan, Rossville, Sherma and Willie Halpin, Rossville, Judy Butler and Emory Stewart, Fort Payne; sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Gudi Smith, Augusta, Ga., Randy and Sandra Smith, Henagar; sister, Juanita Poe, Glen Burnie, Md.; 25 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 24, at 2 p.m. CDT in Corner Stone Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Daryl Sears officiating.

Burial will follow in Mount Home Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. CDT today.

TAMPA, Fla. — Allen Richey, 78, originally of DeKalb County, Ala., died Friday, June 19, 2009, at Kindred Hospital-Central Tampa.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. CDT Thursday from Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow in Miller’s Chapel Cemetery.
