Grace Corbly
Grace Stringer Corbly, 98, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009, at her home.
She was a longstanding member of Central Church of Christ. Mrs. Corbly was retired from Chattanooga City Schools as a teacher after 35 years of service, having served most of those years at Missionary Ridge Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Corbly; and two brothers, Frank Stringer and Paul Stringer.
Survivors include her son, Dennis Martin Corbly Jr. and wife, Jane, of Naples, Fla., and Loudon, Tenn.; grandson, Brett G. Corbly and wife, Christine, of Lexington, Ky.; grandaughters, Meredith Jane Brewer and husband, Ian, of Cold Spring, Ky., and Paige Candice Buffington and husband Adam, of Columbus, Ohio; one great-grandson, William Joseph Brewer, of Cold Spring, Ky.; one sister, Ruth Floyd, of Nashville; one nephew, David Floyd, of Nashville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Minister David Schonhoff officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Judy Carol Wilbanks Early, 57, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 20, 2009.
She was a Christian. A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Mrs. Early worked as an LPN for 32 years and was employed at Valley Hospital and Cumberland Hall.
She was preceded in death her husband, Tommy Early; parents, Helen and Morell Wilbanks; sisters, Josphine Johnson and Patricia Forrester; and brother, Billy Wilbanks.
Survivors include her loving son, Jason W. Smith and wife, Rachel; David Wilbanks; brothers, Gary Morell Wilbanks, Wesley Wilbanks and Karl Brady; sister, Wanda Thompson; grandson, Tysen Smith and many other friends and relatives.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 25, in the funeral home chapel.

Annelle Shelton Foster, 59, of East Ridge, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2009.
A lifelong resident of Chattanooga and member of OLPH Catholic Church, she generously served the community’s banking needs for over 38 years, most recently as Vice President at FSG Bank.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Peggy Shelton.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Foster; son, John (Gena) Harrison; brother, Hugh (Lyn) Shelton; sisters, Beverly (Tim) Rush, Cecilia (Tony) Mitchell, and Diane Voigt; grandchildren, Annie and Piper Harrison; nephews, Eric Mitchell, Shelton Voigt, Parker Rush, Kyle and Tyler Shelton; nieces, Alyson Mitchell and Sarah Voigt.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the East Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at OLPH Catholic Church.

Grace McCrary Gott, 99, of Bradenton, Fla., died Thursday, May 21, 2009.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin L. Gott of Chattanooga; nieces, Charlotte Seals Jackman and Joanna Seals Riddle, of Sarasota, Fla.; and nephew, Edmond W. Seals, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
She is survived by nephew-in-law, Duncan Riddle, formerly of Chattanooga and by great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Chattanooga Memorial Cemetery on Friday, June 26, at 11 a.m.

Kenneth Keeble
Kenneth Vance Keeble, 66, of Hixson, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009.
Born on July 21, 1942, Kenneth graduated from Friendsville High School in Friendsville, Tenn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving two tours in Vietnam where he was awarded the Military Purple Heart for his wounds he received in battle. Kenneth was a former employee with TVA for 15 years and retired from the city of Chattanooga Fire and Police Services after 17 years of service. Kenneth was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he loved to fish and barbeque.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Cecil Keeble.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bonnie Keeble; children, Tina (Todd) Burgin, Kenneth Glenn (Tarasita) Keeble and Lisa Keeble; grandchildren, Kayla and Krista Burgin, Madison and Mackenzie Keeble; brothers, Dallas Leon Keeble and Lawrence Keeble; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the North Chapel.

Peggy Ervin Linder, 76, of Ooltewah, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2009.
A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, she has been a resident of Ooltewah for the past 30 years and was a member of Ooltewah Baptist Church. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1950 and was retired from the Hamilton County Clerk’s Office after 15 years of service.
She was the daughter of the late Claude “Johnny Flynn” and Ottie Ervin and was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Linder; and a brother, James Ervin.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Jo King, Milton, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Billie Ervin, Frostproof, Fla.; niece, caregiver and family, Patrice, Tim, Evan and Joseph; several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tony DeYoung officiating.
Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Billie Richie
Billie Cummings Richie, namesake of Judge Will Cummings, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009, at his home.
He was a loving husband and father and was a member of Wauhatchie United Methodist Church. Billie had been a PageBoy for Rep. Estes Kefauver and had served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Macon in Guam. He was a member of Lookout Valley Lodge 673 for 60 years and the Scottish Rite for 30 years. Mr. Richie was a member of IBEW 175 for 50 plus years. He was employed by U.S. Pipe and Foundry for 27 years and retired from TVA with 30 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert “Bobby” Dewie, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Richie; a sister, Mildred Pirkle and a brother, Leonard Richie.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Long Richie; daughters, Dianne Banniza, of Brentwood, Tenn., Carolyn Richie Gray, of Chattanooga; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Lambert and Delores Smith; many nieces and nephews.

DUNLAP — Wayne Cox, 83, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
He was retired from Chattanooga School System with over 30 years
of service as a supervisor of Building and Grounds, but remained a farmer all of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Billie Cordell Cox; one son, Dr. Clinton (Janice) Cox, of Montgomery, Ala.; two daughters, Judy (Billy) Davenport and Peggy (Jake) Swanger, both of Dunlap; five grandchildren, David (Kristi) Davenport, Daniel (Stacey) Davenport, Dedra Davenport, Renea (Swanger) Boyd and Creed (Charity) Swanger, all of Dunlap; and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Quarles, of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

SOUTH PITTSBURG — Bessie Mae Graham Scharer, 93, passed away quietly and peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 23, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Matilda Lyle Graham; several brothers and sisters; husband, Joe Scharer; son, Charles Donald “Don” Scharer; one grandchild, Diana Wynne; two great-grandchildren and son-in-law, Roy W. Ridley Sr.
She is survived by her children, Patty (William) Barnes, of Bryant, Ala., Ann Ridley, of South Pittsburg, Ted Scharer, of Sequatchie, Tenn., Sue (Jimmy) Stephens, of South Pittsburg and Reba Scharer, of Chattanooga; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in South Pittsburg and The Order of The Eastern Star in Marietta, Ga., Chapter 208.
She received her nursing license in 1963 and worked at South Pittsburg Municipal Hospital and at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. Her will to live was surpassed only by love of her family and her love of God.
Rest in quiet peace.
Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Thursday, June 25, at 11 a.m. CDT, officiated by Rev. Ronnie Case.
Interment will be in Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball, Tenn.

CHICKAMAUGA — Velma Lee Mizell, 79, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at her home.
She was born in Bridgeport, Ala., to the late James Robert and Mamye Lee Carruth Woody, and was preceded in death by her sister, Jinky Rogers.
Velma retired from Hancock Fabrics after 14 years of service, and was a member of Elizabeth Terrace Baptist Church for 32 years in Rossville.
Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Johnnie Mizell, of Chickamauga; children, Burl (Patti) Mizell, of Rossville, Denise (Phil) Shellabarger, Darla (Ronnie) Byrd, all of Chickamauga; brothers, Buddy (Dot) Woody, Glenn (Gene) Woody, all of Tiftonia; grandchildren, Jonathan, Rebekah, Bryan, Laura, Michael, Jeremy, Eric, Jason; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, in the chapel with the Rev. George Pinion and Rev. Phil Shellabarger officiating.
Interment will follow in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

RINGGOLD — Joseph “Joe” Newberry, 84, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, June 21, 2009.
He was a lifelong resident of the Ringgold area. He was a Journeyman Electrician and a member of IBEW Local Union 175. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Frances Ashley Newberry.
Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Newberry (Jeff Hoffinger) and Sandra (Bill) Maynor; brother, Herbert Newberry; sister, Elizabeth Stapp, all of Ringgold; two grandchildren and spouses, April (Austin) Garrett and Tyler and (Amy) Maynor; seven great-grandchildren, Meagan Morris, Haley Garrett, Madelyn Garrett, Alexandria Maynor, Tanner Maynor, Richard Bell and Kyrus Hoffinger; and several nieces and nephews.
