Auditions in Athens for Monroe Area Opera

The Monroe Area Opera, based in Sweetwater, Tenn., is looking for singers of all voice types to participate in four productions planned for ther 2009-2010 opera season. Director Karel Bouse will hold auditions at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Arts Center, 320 North White St. in Athens, Tenn.

The season will feature productions of "Amahl and the Night Visitors" by Menotti (December), Requiem in D-minor K.626 by Mozart (February), "The Mikado" by Gilbert & Sullivan (April) and "L'incoronazione di Poppea" by Monteverdi (June) performed in English.

Rehearsals will be held 6:30-7:40 p.m. Mondays at the Monroe Area School for the Performing Arts, 810 New Highway 68 in Sweetwater.

Auditions are open to all ages and voice types. Vocal training and classical experience are not required but are helpful for those interested in solo roles. Those auditioning will receive a range audition (no preparation necessary) and should bring a piece of music to perform. An accompanist will be provided.
