Gerald Robert Bietz, 79, of Ooltewah, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009.

Jessica Loren Burkhart, 13, of East Ridge passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009.

She was a student of East Ridge Middle School and enjoyed playing soccer for E.R.S.A. Express and her school.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Robert Franklin Burkhart.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Kim and Lee Mithchell; father, Chris Sexton; grandparents, Lynda and Van Green and Janet Hudson; sister, Hannah Mitchell; brother, Tucker Rhodes; aunt, Candy Jones; uncle, Donnie Jones; and boyfriend, Nick Scarborough.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2009, in the funeral home chapel with Brother David Burkhart officiating.

Donnie Casteel

Donald Thomas “Donnie” Casteel, 53, of Ooltewah, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at his home.

He was born June 20, 1956 in Chattanooga and was of the Baptist faith.

His mother, Wanda McCarroll Casteel preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Perry Casteel; daughter, Stephanie Patterson; granddaughter, Emmaleth Patterson, both of Chattanooga; father, George Thomas “Tommy” Casteel, of Chattanooga; sister, Johnnie Sue Bryant, of Ringgold; brothers, Billy McCarroll, Mike Casteel and Tommy Casteel, all of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Jones officiating.

Ruby Cope

Ruby Sumner Cope, 82, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009, at her home after a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Fred T. Cope Jr.; and daughter, Jane Cope Abercrombie.

She was born Aug. 5, 1926, to the late Hugh and Janie Davis Sumner in Scottsboro, Ala. Mrs. Cope moved to Chattanooga after graduating from high school. After moving to Chattanooga, she met and married her husband, Fred. They were married 52 years before his passing in 1998. She was a longtime member of Brainerd Baptist Church where she volunteered in the nursery and library for many years. She was a loving homemaker, wife, and mother to her family. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

She was a member of the Missionary Ridge Chapter UDC, Chief John Ross Chapter NSDAR, and American Ex-Prisoners of War Chattanooga Chapter.

She is survived by daughters, Pat (Jack) Herring, of Signal Mountain, and Susan (Michael) Ledbetter; and son, Tommy (Bonnie) Cope, of Chattanooga. She had seven grandchildren, Michele Herring, of Signal Mountain, Brian Cope, of Boston, Mass., Allan, Joey and Lee Cope, Todd and Chad Ledbetter of Chattanooga; and one great-grandchild, Kadee Cope; nephew, Jim (Deb) Sumner, of Kingston, Tenn., and niece, Charlotte (Terry) Page, of Flintstone, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to Hospice of Chattanooga, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Brainerd Baptist School. The family would like to thank Dr. Terry Melvin and her staff at Hospice of Chattanooga and Pallative Care for their support and guidance through this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Jerry Dent

Geraldine “Jerry” Dent, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009.

She was a member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church. She was retired from the Hamilton County Tag office after 21 years of service. She graduated from Central High School Class of 1941.

Mrs. Dent was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin Dent.

Survivors include one son, Tim Dent (wife Lyn), of Souix City, Iowa; one daughter, Rebecca Rardin (husband Mike), of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Scott and Carol Dent, Jeremy Rardin (wife Tammy) and Matt Rardin; one niece; one nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brainerd Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ronald Ragon officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the Church.

Roy F. Dinsmore, 53, of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, after a brave battle with cancer.

Roy was an employee with Gateway Antiques.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Nellie Dinsmore.

Roy is survived by his sister, Carolyn (Scott) Stillwell; and special family members, Jack Bannister, Evelyn and Jack Bannister, Devonia Siever, Eric and Erica Bannister.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the North Chapel.

Alma L. Grant, 87, of Falling Water, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family.

Quentin W. “Tot” Hullender, 89, of Harrison, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. She was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held today, June 26, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. James Vaughn officiating.

Interment will follow in Old McDonald Cemetery.

Allen King Sr.

Allen Lanier King Sr., 77, of East Ridge, died peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at a local health care facility.

He was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. King received a degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University. He was an employee of REA Express and of the TVA Credit Union for over 25 years, serving in various capacities, including as the manager of accounting.

He was recently preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Sylvia Norris King; also preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Eloise King, of Grenada, Miss.; and son, Allen Lanier King Jr.; and his great-grandson, Jayden Lee Eaves.

Survivors include three daughters Olivia (Don) Stewart, of Lawrenceville, Ga., Pam (Jeff) Williams and Gloria (Steve) Hastings, both of East Ridge; grandchildren, Anthony Stewart, of San Francisco, Calif., Lisa (Tommy) Boyd, of Houschton, Ga. and Mary (Percy) Eaves, of East Ridge; great-granddaughter Olivia Boyd; sister, Margie Watson, of Grenada, Miss.; several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, 4131 Ringgold Road with Dr. J. David Tabor officiating.

Paul Lynch, 61, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at his home.

He was a member of Grace Works Church and was retired from the state of Tennessee Southeast Community Service Agency as Executive Director. Mr. Lynch was a graduate of UT Knoxville and was a veteran serving in the Navy Seabees.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheri Lynch; father, John Andrew Lynch Sr.; and two nephews, Matt Lusk and Michael Lynch.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Elinor Lynch sister, Barbara Elinor Lusk; brother, John Andrew Lynch Jr.; one cousin, Ed Rogers and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. Dennis Newman officiating.

James Charles “Nookie” Morgan, 72, of Chattanooga, departed this earthy life on Friday, June 19, 2009, at local hospital.

He retired from Key James Brick Co.

He was preceded in death by parents, Charles B. and Levora W. Morgan; three brothers, Davis, Robert and Willie James Morgan.

He leaves to cherish his memories three sons, Charles J. Davis, Stephon L. Ramsey and Anthony D. Davis, Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Willie Lee Morgan and Roy (Anne) Morgan; three sisters, Mary E. Green, Jeanette McShan and Dorothye Jordan, Chicago, Ill.; sister-in-law, Louise T. Morgan; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives; Godchildren and many, many friends of Valleyhead, Ala., and Chattanooga.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Reuben Strickland Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Billy Church officiating.

Ollie Mae Morgan, 69, departed this earthly life on Monday, June 22, 2009.

She was born Aug. 15, 1939 to the late J.C. and Daisy Morgan Sr. in the state of Georgia.

She leaves to cherish her memory one loving son, Anthony (Faith) Morgan; four sisters, Lenora (Fredrick Moore, Myrtis (Nathaniel) Jackson, Pasty and Gail Morgan, all of Chattanooga; one sister-in-law, Barbara Morgan, of Chattanooga; two grandchildren, Jaylyn and Ta-Ta, who knew her as “Big Granny”; a host of nieces, nephews and cousin; two dear friends, Emma Kate and Marlene of Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home with the Rev. Jonas Butts officiating.

Della was a member of Lupton Drive Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Nichols.

Marie Pickett

RISING FAWN — Marie Pickett, 82, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in a local health care center after a long battle with cancer and COPD.

Mrs. Pickett was a longstanding member of Rising Fawn United Methodist Church. A prolific social activist, she worked tirelessly to establish the first AARP Chapter in Dade County and to serve as it’s first president and regional director.

She will be remembered in the hearts of many for her years of dedication to the care and well-being of others as a Hospice caregiver and an active supporter of the American Cancer Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Presley Pickett; brother, Jerry Johnston; and sister, Betty Flournoy.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry W. Pickett and his wife, Patti, Ronald N. Pickett and his wife, Patti. Grandchildren, Kelly Smith, Katherine Nyvy, David Pickett, Christa Pickett, Matthew Pickett, Jessica Pickett, Jessica Branson, Melanie Paul, Kathryn Jarrett; and several great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at 1 p.m. EDT Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Rising Fawn United Methodist Church with Rev. Sullins Lamb officiating.

Mrs. Pickett requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church Building Fund.

FLINTSTONE — Eddie Mae “Sally” Warnack, 89, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, in a local health care facility.

She was born May 21, 1920, to the late John and Neppie Parker Massey. Mrs. Warnack was a former member of Burning Bush Baptist Church and was currently a member of Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Fred, Tom, Benton, Howard, Bill and Jack Massey; and sister, Betty Forrester.

Survivors are sons, Gary (Judy) Warnack, David Warnack, all of Flintstone; brother, Aaron (Mary Jane) Massey, Nashville; grandsons, Jacob (Kim) Warnack, Josh (Arica) Warnack; great-granddaughters, Haley, Alexis, and Caitlyn, all of Flintstone; special nieces and nephew, Margaret Swartout, Martha and Robert Sabin, Rodney Forrester, and many others.
