Hamilton County sheriff wants images of criminals on display

Anyone who walks through the two main entrances at the Hamilton County-Chattanooga Courts Building likely will get a look soon at some important faces, which Sheriff Jim Hammond hopes at least a few people will recognize.

Sheriff Hammond told commissioners he wants to install two flat-screen monitors in the courts building that would display pictures of the county's 10 most wanted criminals and other information.

"This gives an opportunity for the citizens as they come in, many of whom probably know some of these very people, because they're there themselves to do business with the courts," he said. "If you need a little extra money to pay your lawyer or a bondsman, this might be a chance to drop a dime and get that information."

Commissioner Richard Casavant said the plan would help create "an informed citizenry."

Sheriff Hammond also said he plans to move the information kiosk at the courts building closer to the main entrance so people can have better access to it.
