Tee time: Summer staple is tops for comfort

A T-shirt is a wardrobe staple for many Chattanoogans, especially during the summer months. Whether it's a novelty top with funny sayings, a work shirt to promote a business, a feminine style with dainty touches or a plain tee worn simply for comfort, people of all ages wear T-shirts.

A group of area residents were photographed this week either working, playing or relaxing around town in their T-shirts of choice.

Megan Chambers, 19, LaFayette, Ga.

"We're with Flintstone Child Care, and we're having a summer camp. Every year we have a different T-shirt. Last year, it was green, but the tie-dyed shirt was our boss's idea."

Andrew Switala, 27, Chattanooga

"I have a whole collection of T-shirts with all kinds of sayings on them. I think T-shirts express a lot about the people wearing them. I wear T-shirts every day."

Kathy Levi, 55, Chattanooga

"I bought this T-shirt at Target for $10.99. I wear T-shirts all the time. I work with dogs, so I have to change my clothes a lot, and I don't really mind messing up T-shirts."

Tootsie the poodle, owned by Connie Smith of Chattanooga

"T-shirts are very popular with dog owners, particularly for medium and small dogs. A lot of dogs go to day care with air-conditioning, so the T-shirts keep them warm." -- Kathy Levi, co-owner of Bone Appetit Bakery

Carolyn Chapman, 48, Chattanooga

"It's a work T-shirt, and just what I need to work with kids. Late Night Hoops is a basketball program for boys 14-18, sponsored by Parks and Recreation."

Zoe Pettway, 8, Chattanooga

"My mother bought this shirt for me, and it's one of my very favorites."

Aaron Basescu, 21, Cleveland, Tenn.

"I found this T-shirt at Goodwill for $1.49. I wear T-shirts all the time, and I like to buy them at thrift stores. I like the novelty ones that make people laugh. I bought this one because McDonald is near my hometown."

Michael Hall, 48, Harrison

"I wear T-shirts when I'm working. I stay sweaty, and T-shirts help me to stay cool."

Michelle Johnson, 42, Chattanooga

"I wear T-shirts all the time because they're comfortable. I buy them for $1 at thrift stores. I prefer rock 'n' roll ones, but I've got ones with Johnny Cash and ones with Jesus."

Akia Thompson, 13, Chattanooga

"I got this T-shirt at Hamilton Place. I bought it because it's colorful, has sparkles, and Obama is my favorite president."
