Pancake in final at state amateur

MEMPHIS -- Chattanooga's Brooke Pancake will play this morning for the 2009 Tennessee Women's Amateur golf championship after going three extra holes to win a quarterfinal match and adding a semifinal victory Friday afternoon at Memphis Country Club.

Pancake, a former Baylor School multiple state champion who just completed her freshman year at Alabama, won 3 and 1 over Middle Tennessee State player Ashley Haggard of Savannah, Tenn., after edging Knoxville's Alyssa Randolph on the 21st hole. While Pancake was going overtime in her morning match, Haggard was winning quicky, 8 and 7, over Tullahoma's Morgan Hale.

Pancake, the medalist in qualifying at the first of the week, will tee off at 8:16 CDT this morning against Kendall Martindale of Jefferson City. Martindale reached the final match for the second year in a row by defeating University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golfer Kayla Stewart from Cookeville 6 and 4 and downing Megan Myers of Murfreesboro 3 and 1.

Myers had defeated Hendersonville's Lorie Warren, who beat Martindale for the 2008 championship. in the round of 16 on Thursday.

Cleveland's Linda Mullins lost 5 and 3 in the second-flight final Friday against Oakland's Ashley Averitt, and Chattanooga's Georgia McCravey fell 2 and 1 to Piperton's Brenda Hitt in the third-flight final.
