Teens and tweenagers with an eye for computers and how things work are satisfying their curiosities this summer in a series of technology-related camps at Chattanooga State Technology Community College.

Classes have been and will be offered on subjects from basic keyboarding skills to robotics to bridge design.

OPEN CAMPS

Chattanooga State still has openings in several of its summer technology camps. Those are:

3D Animation (July 6-10)

Computer Keyboarding (July 6-10)

Webpage Design (July 20-24)

Introduction to Robotics (July 13-17)

Intermediate Robotics (July 21-25)

"It's a way to bring in teens and introduce them and get them on campus and provide them with a fun workshop and a learning opportunity for them," said Ju-Hsin Lusk, who works in the school's Business & Community Development sector. "It's a win-win situation."

Although the weeklong camps have a cost, they are subsidized by an annual grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority, she said.

Lulu Copeland, manager of technical training for the school, said the classes are to encourage teens to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

The most popular classes are the Lego robotic camp and the 3D animation class, both of which have two sections this summer. Many of the classes are so popular they have wait lists.

"Everybody has a great time at our classes," Ms. Lusk said.
