Stimulus may help Bradley transit

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Bradley County could be eligible for up to $850,000 in federal transportation grants for county transit in the federal stimulus package, officials said.

In a news release, County Mayor D. Gary Davis said the money will come in the form of an earmark that can be used only for transportation projects.

The release stated that Mr. Davis learned of the stimulus grant from Ray Evans, executive director of the Southeast Tennessee Human Resources Agency.

Once the grant is submitted and approved, SETHRA can use the money to buy buses and convert the former train depot at Five Points into a terminal for the city’s transit service.

Mr. Davis said the dates and amounts of the grant won’t be known until an application is submitted and approved.
