UTC is drawing national attention for its business program.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga program recently was ranked by BusinessWeek magazine as 82nd of the 101 best bachelor’s degree business programs in the nation. This is the second ranking for the program.
REGIONAL RANKINGS
How universities in the region fared:
Emory University: 9
Georgia Institute of Technology: 51
UTC: 82
Belmont University (Nashville): 84
Georgia State University: 100
“BusinessWeek has discovered what we have known all along, that the UTC College of Business houses outstanding faculty with impressive credentials and its graduates are sought after in the workplace,” said UTC Chancellor Roger Brown.
The fourth annual ranking placed strong emphasis on universities that assisted students in finding a job, especially given the state of the economy, according to the magazine. The rankings were based on a poll of graduating seniors and of recruiters, according to UTC.
UTC’s business college facilitates student internships at area businesses, and brings business people to meet with the students, said Richard Casavant, dean of the College of Business. Those internships and meetings can help the students find a job after graduation, he said, despite the state of the economy.
“It validates the quality of what we’ve built over the years,” said Dr. Casavant. “The faculty are very student-oriented.”
Dr. Casavant also cited UTC’s classroom sizes and on-campus housing as positives for the business program. The ranking should help UTC draw students from outside the region, he said.
