Pink rockers for a country star

The folks at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store have taken a shine to Dolly Parton, and the bright pink rockers on the porch are proof.

The company’s 588 locations are the exclusive source of three collector’s edition products released last week in partnership with the country-music icon. In addition to pink rocking chairs, the lineup features the re-release of her latest CD, “Backwoods Barbie,” with three new tracks added to the original 12, as well as a photo album of significant times in the singer’s life.

In a phone interview Tuesday, Ms. Parton said the songs — “Rose of My Heart,” “Hallelujah Holiday” and “Berry Pie” — were chosen exclusively for Cracker Barrel.

“They kind of cater to their clientele and my type of audiences,” she said of the songs.

According to Cracker Barrel, only 1,350 of the rockers have been made, and each features a pewter plate on the back engraved with its unique number.

Ms. Parton said she was doing her media interviews from Nashville while seated in one and seemed excited about their rosy appeal. Her only concern, she said, was that her fans might think she was ready to put up her feet and take it easy.

Maybe we better promote it “Dolly rocks” instead of “Dolly’s in her rocking years,” she said she told the Cracker Barrel reps, adding, “If I do ever have to sit in a rocking chair, I’m gonna put wheels on it, so I can rock and roll.”

The rockers are priced at $199.99 — $70 more than an unadorned model and $50 more than the collegiate line. Ms. Parton said store officials have assured her the rockers are selling well. She thinks she knows why.

“The pink rocking chair has got to be a hoot sitting on the porch at Cracker Barrel ’cause you can see it for a mile,” she joked. “People are buying them just to get them off the porch.”
