Georgia Southern slips past Appalachian State in SoCon softball tourney

Georgia Southern scored an unearned run in the first inning and relied on pitcher Brianna Streetmon's pitching to complete at 1-0 victory over Appalachians State on Friday in the Southern Conference tournament at Warner Park.

Streetmon pitched a complete-game three-hitter for the win with eight strikeouts to lead the Eagles to the losers bracket final against the loser of the UTC-Samford game, which will is set to begin at 3 p.m. Friday at Jim Frost Stadium.

Georgia Southern (27-24) pushed across the only run of the game when Nina Iduate led off with a bunt single and scored after Appalachian State committed three errors in the inning. The loss ends the Mountaineers season with a record of 26-29.

Appalachian State pitcher Kayla Richardson took the loss despite giving up only four hits. She did not allow an earned run for the entire tournament.
