Glenn Miller went missing in 1944, but his music, considered part of the big-band canon, has never been lost.
The sounds of Miller, along with those of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and the Dorsey Brothers, will fill the Tivoli Theatre today for “Big Band Fever Two.”
A gift not only to Chattanooga-area moms on Mother’s Day but also to the CSO’s loyal patrons, “Big Band Two” is a smaller reprise of the “Big Band Fever” concert presented on Valentine’s Day.
“I challenge you to stay still when you hear (this music),” said CSO musical director Robert Bernhardt. “For a lot of people, it’s nostalgic of an era when the American spirit was really important.”
Members of the CSO, augmented by additional players, form the 16-piece CSO Big Band. Guests are invited to dance the night away to the sounds of classic big-band works like “In the Mood,” “Stompin’ at the Savoy,” “String of Pearls” and “Sophisticated Lady.”
Extra credit for the Chattanoogan who can train his mind to figure out the encore.
