NASHVILLE — Chattanooga State Technical Community College may be no more.
Under a bill on its way to Gov. Phil Bredesen for his consideration, the two-year institution will be called Chattanooga State Community College.
The name change for Chattanooga State and four other technical community colleges passed today as the House approved Senate Bill 681 on a 94-0 vote.
The measure was sponsored by Rep. Gerald McCormick, R-Chattanooga.
Expenditures for the name changes will come from the institutions existing revenues, according to a fiscal note. The colleges also will be allowed to phase out items such as stationery.
Other institutions affected are Pellissippi State, Northeast State, Nashville State and Southwest State.
