Ex-Vol Maples picks Furman over Mocs

Wide receiver Tyler Maples won’t be joining former University of Tennessee teammate B.J. Coleman at UT-Chattanooga.

Maples has committed to Furman, he told the Times Free Press in a text message Thursday.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Maples helped Maryville High School win three state Class 4A titles under coach George Quarles, a former Furman wide receiver who was on the Paladins’ 1988 national championship team.

Maples, who has three years of eligibility remaining, visited UTC last Friday and visited Furman earlier this week.
