Scenic City Chorale is a tri-state volunteer choir that rehearses at Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors on Newby Street.

“A Potpourri of Familiar Show Tunes” will be the theme of a Sunday afternoon concert by the Scenic City Chorale.

“We just thought it would be a good time to relax and do some lighter pieces after some of the heavier concerts we’ve done recently,” conductor Bill Long said.

More than 55 voices will fill the church sanctuary for this free concert of popular movie hits. Songs will include “Ashokan Farewell” from the soundtrack of the PBS series “The Civil War,” “Non Nobis Domine” from the film “Henry V,” “Summertime” from “Porgy and Bess,” “They Call the Wind Maria” from “Paint Your Wagon” and “Over the Rainbow” from “The Wizard of Oz.”

Long said the concert will include two medleys, one from “The Phantom of the Opera “ and the other selections by Jerome Kern.

“ ‘A Choral Portrait’ ... includes ‘All the Things You Are,’ ‘Who,’ ‘I Won’t Dance’ and other selections by Kern,” said the conductor.

The Scenic City Chorale rehearses at 10 a.m. Tuesdays in the Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors building at 10th and Newby streets. For more information about becoming a member of the chorus, call Bobbie Howell at 877-8339 or the Senior Neighbors office at 755-6100.
