An Introduction to Bruce Cockburn

This week’s MUSICcast is an introduction to one of my favorite singer/songwriters. Bruce Cockburn (pronounced CO-BURN) is a guitarist and songwriter from Canada. His body of work is 26 full-length albums strong, yet he remains somewhat of an obscurity in the United States. Many of his songs are political or spiritual in context (Bruce is a Christian), but all are filtered through the mind of a consummate poet . This MUSICcast will feature a few songs from his 1984 album “Stealing Fire” and a few songs from a 1993 concert. Enjoy.

Listen here.

Some Shows:

Nightfall has scheduled Nation Beat for this evening’s concert downtown. The shows begin at 7pm and are free.

The Machine (a tribute to Pink Floyd) will perform at Rhythm & Brews tonight. Presumably, this show will start sometime after Nightfall at around 10pm. Tickets are $10.

Rhythm & Brews has the Dave Matthews Tribute Band on Saturday night. That should be fun, right? Show is at 10pm.

Riverbend begins on June 5th. Admission is by “pins” and those “pins” are available right now at area retailers.

Have a good weekend.
