Sarah Elizabeth Anderson, 84, of Whiteside, Tenn., passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, in a local hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Madison Smith and Bertha Varner Smith.

Snyder Ervin IV
Snyder Daniel “Dede” Ervin IV, 61, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at home.
Dan was born in Chattanooga, a graduate of Chattanooga High School in 1966. He was a Chattanooga police officer prior to serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as a corporal. He also served as funeral honor guard during his military enlistment.
He had a career in the rent-to-own business with several companies, Rent-A-Center and later was president of TV Rental Distribution, DBA Colortyme. He was an entrepreneur at heart with numerous endeavors.
He will be remembered for his zest for life and his love for family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Snyder (Bill) and Gladys Brown Ervin, of Chattanooga.
He is survived by his son, Derek Ervin Dyer and wife Carrie, of West Virginia; daughter, Cheryl Johnson and husband Cody, of Washington; brother, Lewis Ervin and wife Ann; sister, Betty McDaniel of Chattanooga; nine grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews; one aunt and uncle; girlfriend, Annissa Witt, of East Ridge.
A memorial service will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2:30 on Tuesday, Nov. 3, with Pastor Ricky Brown officiating and readings from the family.
Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Dan’s life at the home of his daughter’s mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Navy & Marine Corps Relief Society.

Catherine Hutchison
Catherine Nevada Hutchison, 77, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at her home.
She was born in Burnsville, N.C., June 29, 1932, to the late Roscoe and Vinnie Lewis.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Mrs. Hutchison was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Francis Lewis; and one sister, Ann Roland.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Billy R. Hutchison; daughters, Melinda (Troy) Leophard, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Bonnie Jean (Peter) Oroczo, of Kannapolis, Kan.; son, Billy R. (Teresa) Hutchison Jr., of Woodland Park, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the family home.

Margie Longacre, of Hixson, 72, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 30, 2009.
She was a retired real estate agent, bookkeeper, wife and mother who enjoyed laughing, fashion and interior decorating.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Crowder; husband, Byron Longacre; children, Karen (Wayne) Aaron, Dan (Lisa) Longacre, and Nancy (Mark) Holland; brother, Curtis Crowder; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

William Love Sr.
William R. Love Sr., 90, of Chattanooga, died Saturday Oct. 24, 2009.
He worked for Texaco Inc. for 34 years, retiring in 1981 as Vice President and Comptroller. He was in the US Navy from 1942-1947, with the rank of Lt. Commander. He served in the Pacific on the USS Holland and at the Brooklyn Navy Yard following the Second World War, having responsibility for disposing of 400 Navy ships. He was a proud graduate of Dalton, Ga., High School (1936) and the University of Chattanooga (1941). He attended Northwestern University Graduate School of Business, and Harvard University. He was a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church, the Board of Baroness Erlanger Hospital, Chancellor's Round Table of UTC and the UT Development Council, Fairyland Club, Lookout Mountain Golf Club, and the Mountain City Club.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Miriam Dodson Landress Love, in 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison M. Love Sr.; brothers, John M. Love Sr. and Harrison M. Love Jr.; aunt, Virginia Skelton; sister-in-law, Virginia Coggins; and granddaughter, Jennifer R. Love.
Surviving relatives include sons, William R. Love Jr. and wife, Jackie, of Chattanooga, Thomas H. Love and wife, Carol, of Georgetown, Del.; daughters, Amelia Martin Love Howard and husband Thomas, of Short Hills, N.J. and Mary Virginia Love and husband, Alan Sall, of Snohomish, Wash.; four grandchildren, William Perry Love and wife, Vikki, of Dayton, Ohio, Samuel Howard and Lucas Sall; four great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mrs. John M. Love, Mrs. Harry Love Jr., Mrs. Hiram Chamberlain III, Mrs. Selden W. Landress, and brother-in-law and spouse, Mr. and Mrs. Ben S. Landress, all of Chattanooga.
The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at First-Centenary UMC on McCallie Avenue, with services to follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. Dr. David Harr officiating.

Florence Hamilton
CLEVELAND — Florence Maddux Hamilton, 96, died Saturday morning, Oct. 31, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was a lifelong resident of Bradley County and member of North Cleveland Baptist Church. A member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class, she enjoyed visiting the shut-ins with Pastor Jay McCluskey and her friend Nell Bunch.
Affectionately known as Mamaw, she also enjoyed gardening and doing her own yard work, supplying her neighbors with vegetables from her garden. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and an avid quilter and seamstress.
She enjoyed her large family and especially have them all home for lunch gatherings on holidays.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lottie Green Maddux; her husband, C.L. (Shan) Hamilton; sisters, Edna Quintrell, Sallie Hamilton, Irene Hooper and Edith Maddux; brothers, Walter Maddux and Fletcher Maddux; and daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Hamilton.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Mike Pierce, Joye and Jim Goodner, Juanita and John Eldridge; son, Loye Hamilton; sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Sharon Hamilton, Carl and Ann Hamilton, Bill and Debra Hamilton; sister-in-law, Florence Kaplan; brother-in-law, Claude Tatum and special friend, Jo Stewart; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

SPRING CITY — Henrietta C. Tallent, 89, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at the Spring City Care Center.
Born in Spring City, she was the daughter of the late James Oliver and Mary Darwin Crosby. Henrietta was a graduate of Spring City High School, a lifetime member of the Rhea County Historical Society, and a member of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband, Seth Tallent; and her sisters, Imogene, Florence and Mattie Crosby, and Ella Mae Bendix.
Survivors include her sons, William Joseph “Joe” Tallent of Concord, N.C., Paul Tallent of Spring City, James Tallent of Huntersville, N.C., Glen Tallent of Daniels, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Floyd was a member and Deacon at Bethel Baptist Church in Chickamauga, and a member of the Masonic Lodge # 397 in Rossville.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Naomi Ruth Tartar.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Melba Morrison; daughters, Linda (Ted) Goins, Brenda (Rick) Wright all of Kensington; siblings, Loyd Sutton of Henagar, Forrestine Blackburn, Eloise Bates, both of Chattanooga; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
