When investor Warren Buffett made headlines this week after his Berkshire Hathaway company bid for the railway business owned by Burlington Northern, he said trains are more effective for moving goods that trucks.
I agree, completely. I also think trains are more effective, from a fuel and environmental standpoint, for moving people than vehicles.
Let’s hope congressional leaders in Washington, D.C., feel the same way. If they do, that would bolster Chattanooga’s mission to land a high-speed railway from here to Atlanta.
America’s railway has been ignored too long. It’s time our long-developed nation moved into the 21st century.
Warren Buffet gets it. Rail is our future. One can only hope Washington gets it as well.
