Franklin Barnes
Franklin D. Barnes, 69, of Signal Mountain, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, with his family by his side, following a 7 year battle with cancer.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1940 in Sherwood, Tenn., and later moved with his family to Chattanooga. He was retired after 45 years as a self-employed carpet installer.
Known as “Bird” to his many family and friends, he loved to fish, tend to his lawn and garden, and spend time with his large family. He always had a smile on his face, laughter to share, and a twinkle in his eyes. All who knew him would agree that he was a kind and generous man that made a friend of everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Sarah Barnes; grandparents, Alice and Mark Pack and Thomas and Jeannie Barnes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Ruby; four daughters, Tonya Cornelison (Geno), Donna Stull, DeeAnn Eslinger (Gary) and Nikkie Barnes; four sons, Russell Gifford, Paul Gifford, Billy Gifford (Carmen) and Steve Barnes (Dee Dee); fourteen grandchildren, P.J. Gifford, Chad Gifford, Meagin Harrison, Amanda Barnes, Ashley Stull, Harold Gage, Misty Gifford, Stephanie Barnes, Zachary Stull, Jacob Barnes, A.J. Barnes, Austin Dykes, Franklin Gifford and Ginnie Gifford; five great-grandchildren, Adaison Gifford, Aidan Gifford, Emily Harrison, Dylan Leffew and Hanley Bell; and a very special family member he loved as a son, Mark Stull; two brothers, William and Butch Barnes; six sisters, Judy Hill, Margaret Barnes, Wanda Ruth, Diane Murphy, Darlene McGan and Charlsie Haley; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday EDT at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Dotson and Pastor Kenneth Haley officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday CDT at Mountainview Cemetery in Sherwood, Tenn.
Pallbearers will be Allen Barnes, Harold Gage, Zach Stull, T. J. Gifford, Larry Foster, and Spencer Smith.

Crystal Ann Ryan Carson, 27, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at a local hospital.
She was a member of River of Life Baptist Church and was currently a student at Chattanooga State.
She was a loving mother of two boys, Jansen Carson and Mark Martin; parents, James Ryan II and Sandra Ryan; sisters, Samantha Drain and Sabrina Ryan; grandfather, Darrell Beck; grandparents, Joyce and Jimmy Grant; fiancé, Kenneth Martin; four nieces and nephews.

Joshua Lee Chaney, 27, of Soddy Daisy, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009.

Rev. Lee Hill
The Rev. Lee Hill, 92, the oldest living member of the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009.
He is survived by daughter, Mary Lee Hill (Ray) Hammond, of Chattanooga; and son, Russell Allen (Myrna) Hill, of East Ridge. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Scott Allen Hill, Tania LeRae Hammond Lester, Myra Lynn Hill Guffey, Tammy Marie Hammond Triplett, Kirby Lee Hill, Kristen Marie Hill; and seven great-grandchildren; Shannon, Kacie, Lauren, Cody, Rachel Anne, Samantha, and Kimberly; and one great-great-granddaughter, Nataly.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 34 years, Mary Helen Harris Hill, and his second wife of 30 years, Phyllis Nadine Smith Hill; and granddaughter, Pamela Dawn Hammond.
Lee grew up in the Holston Home for Children in Greeneville Tenn. During his 45 year career as an active minister in the Holston Conference, Rev. Hill had 17 assignments serving 45 churches in Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia. As a minister, husband, brother, father, grandfather, great and great-great-grandfather he touched many lives and leaves a legacy that will endure for generations to come. A true gentle man. Our loss is the world’s loss, except only a few of us know this because he sought no fame or recognition.

Naomi Elizabeth McClain, 76, a lifelong resident of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, in a Chattanooga hospital.
She was a charter member of Sequoyah Church of God. She enjoyed cooking, working with flowers and was a devoted housewife.

Alfred Oliver, 55, went to see God on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009. He was a husband, father and grandfather.
He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and graduate of Brainerd High School class of 1972. He also was a graduate of Chattanooga State Community College. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was an employee of Chattanooga Housing and Dalton (Ga.) Housing Authorities and Bunge Edible Oil Corporation.
Survivors include his parents, Noah and Annie Oliver, of Chattanooga; his estranged wife, Karen Oliver; children, Alfred Jr., Veronica and Brandon Oliver, all of Chattanooga; brothers, Noah II and Martin Oliver, of Chattanooga; sisters, Sallye (Elbert) Wallace, Hartselle, Ala., Gloria (Richard) Davis, Barbara (Willie Jr.) Kitchens and Lena Oliver, all of Chattanooga; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends.

Vivian Inez Peoples, 70, of Georgetown, passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at her home.
She was born in South Pittsburg, Tenn., Sept. 11, 1939 to the late Marie Nunley Case.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Ollie Mae Cranfield; siblings, Willie Cranfield and Edna Hennessee.
