Woman, 58, killed in Ooltewah wreck

An Ooltewah woman was killed Wednesday in a car wreck on Hunter Road, authorities said.

Lynda Petty, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson said in a news release.

About noon Wednesday, sheriff’s deputies were called to the 5600 block of Hunter Road on reports of a traffic crash, Ms Atkinson said. When deputies arrived, they found a wrecked 1999 Toyota 4 Runner, she said.

The driver lost control trying to negotiate a curve and the vehicle left the road on the righthand side, Ms. Atkinson said. The Toyota plunged down an embankment, through a yard, back up the embankment and went airborne before slamming into a tree, she said.

The investigation by the sheriff’s office traffic division is continuing, she said.
