FORT HOOD, Texas — The base commander at Fort Hood says soldiers who witnessed a shooting rampage that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted “Allahu Akbar!” before opening fire at the Texas post.

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone told NBC’s “Today” show on Friday that suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, made the comment, which is Arabic for “God is great!” before the rampage Thursday that also left 30 people wounded.

Military officials say they are still piecing together what may have pushed Hasan, an Army psychiatrist trained to help soldiers in distress, to turn on his comrades.

Cone says Hasan was not known to be a threat or risk.

Hasan was shot four times during the rampage. Cone says he is hospitalized in stable condition and that military officials will interrogate him as soon as possible.

As I mentioned on the earlier AP press release that had incorrect information about Hasan and was removed this am, this type of behavior from previously 'moderate' Muslims is nothing new in Canada or Europe where small cells of individuals proliferate in those countries. The Calgary synagogue bombing, Montreal, LA and the London bombings that killed innocent bystanders are an example of what we will soon learn-that America is next and needs to wake up and stop appeasing CAIR and other groups who support terrorism overseas (and here too by the way).

The only 'protests' we hear in the media and from the Gov't that love to spin these stories, are protests about "intolerance" from "certain" Americans. And denial of course that Islam has anything to do with 'it'.

This is a reminder that government cannot keep anyone safe. If they can't keep the guys on a military post in the heart of Texas safe, how can they keep any of us safe. We the People need to wake up, throw off the chains that government has placed upon us that keep us from protecting ourselves, and take back our country.

canaryinthecoalmine and Georgia Rebel. Let me begin this comment by getting straight to the point- which is that you are both full of sh!t.

Canary- Islam has as much to do with their "terrorism" as Christianity does with people signing up to join our military and raping, plundering, and blowing up villages abroad does. It's simply used as a justification by simple-minded people, not unlike yourself, that aren't willing to state what's really going on here. They don't appreciate how we've treated them, which is a valid enough feeling considering that the United States is always going around and poking it's nose into other people's business, and oil, and taking it's metaphorical penis out and slapping other countries with it. What we're getting right now, is not what we deserve (as no one deserves what happened at that base), but it is a direct result of our own aggressive actions abroad.

GeorgiaRebel- No one can keep anyone safe. You're perhaps even more ill equiped to keep someone safe than the gov't is though. And, in the first place, safety is an illusion, just like these "chains" you're talking about. The gov't doesn't stop you from owning a gun, and if my memory serves me right ammo sales are through the roof right now. So please, don't feed us this line of crap about "chains". If you want to do something about it why don't you stop voting for Good ol' Boy Republican Representatives that consistently impede the progress of our majority gov't (you know, Democrats) from getting things done?

The most dangerous weapon is a religiosity and theolatry that insists that other human beings are infidel, sinful, hell-bound, apostate, and expendable.

An ignorant, deluded man killed these soldiers. Everything else that we add is garnish.

Was this psychiatrist on an antidepresant?

The Physicians Desk Reference states that SSRI antidepressants and all antidepressants can cause mania, psychosis, abnormal thinking, paranoia, hostility, etc. These side effects can also appear during withdrawal.

Go to www.SSRIstories.com where there are over 3,400 cases, with the full media article available, involving bizarre murders, suicides, school shootings [49 of these] and murder-suicides - all of which involve SSRI antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, etc, . The media article usually tells which SSRI antidepressant the perpetrator was taking or had been using.

Keep hurling insults babyboys. No rational proof or facts that we're wrong. And your English needs working on.

Our english needs working on? I'm pretty sure everything we stated was correct, both grammatically and in our spelling. I'm a white American male, I should think I know how to speak english. Imagine that? A white American male citizen living in the bible Belt can actually feel empathy for people who aren't white American male citizens. Who knew? There is plent of rational proof/facts that you're wrong. If common sense isn't enough for you then try reading books that aren't a) the Bible or b) written by conservatives.

Platocres,

The male bovine dung you are spewing shows just how shallow you understand the subject.

For the record, I am as fed up with the "Good Ole Boy Republicans" as I am with the "Majority Democrats." I have voted for both in the past and will not do so again. Neither group is bound by the rule of law (The Constitution) and only a shallow-minded, lap dog would uphold either of them.

You totally missed my point on safety. The government prevents people from possessing firearms except when they don't feel that such possession is a threat to the government. Possessing a firearm for protection on Fort Hood is forbidden. None of the soldiers that were at the facility were allowed to possess and carry a firearm for their own protection.

You trust your government to keep you safe? That puts you at odds with the framers of our republic. I can supply the quotes, if you are too lazy to do your own research.

Hasan was hoping for his 40 virgins but was only wounded. Too bad. Tough luck, ma'am. Those Texas cross-winds can be a bear.

Goodness! Penis-envy from an non-entity...his handle -- Platocres -- says it all. A Potty-mouth to boot.

Those white-trash aren't worth responding to Rebel. Either their comprehension is zero to 10 percentile or they chose to misstate your position just to draw attention to themselves.

Hasan may have been self-medicating, rosiecee, but I doubt it was anything legal.

He is just a crazy Muslim...they DO enjoy chopping off heads, after all; which isn't exactly an act of sanity.

Unfortunately, this is just the beginning of jihad-without-penalty in the US. It is what comes from kowtowing to foreign kings instead of greeting them like a man.
