The Chattanooga Fire Department today started a new fire academy thought to be one of the largest in the department’s history.

Thirty-two recruits were welcomed into the academy this morning by Fire Chief Randy Parker, department spokesman Bruce Garner said in a news release.

The recruits will graduate as firefighters on May 20, 2010, if they complete the academy.
