Dalton man struck and killed in Varnell Thursday night

DALTON, Ga. — A Dalton man died after he was struck by a vehicle in Varnell Thursday night.

Georgia State Patrol dispatcher Josh Elleman said Russell Johnson, 23, lost a dollhouse from his vehicle while traveling on Georgia Highway 2 in front of Varnell Elementary School.

He got out to remove the dollhouse from the roadway and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. He died en route to Hamilton Medical Center.

Mr. Elleman had limited details about the accident, but said that no charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle that struck Mr. Johnson. The driver’s name was not immediately available this morning.
