BENTON, Tenn. -- The dry-erase board in the Polk County locker room had been updated within minutes of the final horn.
It simply stated the Wildcats' record of "11-0" following their 29-0 victory over Kingston in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs Friday.
The Wildcats will play at home next Friday against Loudon, which beat Bledsoe County.
"We'd have to get a gazillion breaks in order to win this one," Kingston coach Vic King said before the game.
The Yellow Jackets received a few breaks, but not nearly enough to beat the more physical and more athletic team Friday.
"They're bigger, stronger and have more physical players," King said. "They lined up and mashed us."
The victory gives Polk County 11 wins for the first time in school history and ended a six-year streak of losing in the first round of the playoffs.
"After six years of being one-and-done, it wears on you," Polk County coach Derrick Davis said. "We'd have good years but couldn't make it out of the first round."
Loudon (9-2) and Polk County scrimmaged before the first game of the season. Davis said it ended in a tie.
"These two programs are very familiar with each other," he said. "It's going to be a battle. Their offensive line is the best we've seen this year."
Polk's own offensive line, led by Nick Jones and Taylor Williams, paved the way for 223 rushing yards and allowed quarterback Jared Allen to complete all five of his passes for 97 yards.
"I think we played one of the best games we could," said running back Chase Christian, who had 76 yards and two touchdowns before leaving in the third quarter with an ankle injury. "The holes were huge to run through tonight."
Polk limited the Yellow Jackets to 91 offensive yards and forced two turnovers.
"I didn't expect to do that to them defensively," Davis said. "Our offense has carried us."
Christian scored twice in the first quarter, first from 4 yards out and later from 21 yards out on a trap through the middle of the line. Allen added a 1-yard sneak for a 22-0 lead at halftime.
Allen put Kingston in an impossible hole when he connected with James Bussey from 35 yards out in the third quarter for the final score of the game.
"I don't have a problem with what we were doing offensively, but those two fumbles we had, we can't do that against Loudon," Davis said. "We were fairly consistent, but we had drives that fizzled out."
