Mix Master Mike to spin at MainX24

The third annual MainX24 event, set for Dec. 5, will take on a hip-hop flavor with internationally known DJ Mix Master Mike serving as headliner, according to organizer Tiffanie Campbell Robinson with Quiddity Entertainment.

MainX24 is a 24-hour celebration of all things Main Street, she said. Quiddity, which produces concerts and events across the country, recently moved its offices from Memphis to Main Street. Presenting the show with a type of act not normally booked here is a way for the company to introduce itself to Chattanooga.

“Since working with national talent is something that we do for a living, so we thought this was cool to actually bring it to Chattanooga,” she said.

“Us bringing in Mix would definitely be outside the box compared to other talent that is booked here, but we know there is a calling for this type of thing here. There is a kind of underground DJ scene here,” she said.

Mix Master Mike (real name Michael Schwartz) is an award-winning DJ known for his solo career and his work with the Beastie Boys on their albums “Hello Nasty” and “To the 5 Boroughs” and their live shows.

He won three consecutive DMC DJ World Championships and is sometimes credited with inventing the “tweak scratch,” which is performed by moving the record back and forth while the platter is stopped.

He will perform, along with local band The Distribution, in the Hills Floral Warehouse at 100 Main St., which will be transformed into a nightclub for the evening.

“Rather than your typical dance space where you have a bar here and a bar there, we are creating several events inside of one event,” Mrs. Robinson said. “There will be a lot of interactive areas with some things focusing on Main Street community and some focusing on the entertainment.”

The show, which will take place from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., is known as “The Main Event.”

Tickets for the show are $20 and $30 and are available at themaineventchatt.com. Tickets are not needed for MainX24.

Other events planned during the festival include midnight storytelling, a root beer keg tapping, pancake breakfast, open houses and exhibits in the various shops, a parade, a chili cook-off and a fashion show.

MainX24 will begin at 8 a.m. Dec. 5 with “Reflections at the Well,” an “interactive journey of contemplation and reflection regarding our global community, Chattanooga community and family communities,” and end with “Madia’s Yoga for Hangovers” at 10:15 a.m. the following morning.
