CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Two little girls got one big surprise at school this afternoon.
Kylee Weir, 6, and her sister Ashlyn, 4, thought they were going to talk on the phone to their dad, an Army specialist who’s been stationed in Iraq since December.
The 540 other students in Oak Grove Elementary School’s gym thought the same thing.
Unexpectedly, however, Principal Ted Bryson asked the girls to introduce a guest speaker — and Spc. Chris Weir walked through the door.
Disbelief was the first expression on the girls’ faces, followed in seconds by smiles as they ran to leap on their father.
Spc. Weir joined the Army in 2007, the year after his brother, David Weir, died in Iraq.
Spc. Weir returned Friday from his deployment.
