Flash flood warnings out for North Georgia counties

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Ga., has issued several flash flood warnings for North Georgia counties.

Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade and Walker counties will remain under the warning until 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

More than two inches of rain have fallen in North Georgia since 6:30 p.m. today on top of earlier rains of 1 to 2 inches today, according to the weather service.

Southeast Tennessee remains under a flash flood watch, but no warning has been issued, according to forecaster David Gaffin with the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn.

Mr. Gaffin said about 2 inches of rain had been recorded in Chattanooga by 9 p.m. today, while areas of McMinn and Monroe counties had received 4 to 5 inches.

He said flash floods are not expected in Southeast Tennessee for tonight or early Wednesday morning.

“We’re not expecting the rain to occur too suddenly,” he said.
