Banks sign to play basketball at UTC

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga basketball coach John Shulman has received scholarship paperwork from 6-foot-7 forward Anthony Banks of Roanoke, Va.

Banks averaged about 19 points and 12 rebounds per game last season for North Cross High School. He is rated in the top 100 small forwards by Scouts Inc. North Cross coach Joe Lambert said he should be in the top 50.

“Ol’ John is getting a steal now,” Lambert said. “There are going to be a lot of upset fellas saying they should have recruited him when they see what’s going to unfold.”

Banks considered Akron, Auburn, Virginia Commonwealth and three other Southern Conference schools.

The Lady Mocs are expected to sign four players during the early signing period which began today.

See Thursday’s Times Free Press for more Southern Conference basketball coverage.
