Engineer union joins AFL-CIO

Members of an engineers union at the Tennessee Valley Authority voted Tuesday to affiliate with the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers union.

By a vote of 856 to 88, the TVA Engineering Association agreed to join the AFL-CIO through the 65,000-member IFPTE.

TVA's engineering union, formed in 1937 shortly after the creation of TVA in 1933, represents over 2,600 engineers, scientists, technicians and other white-collar professionals at TVA.

"TVA's engineers see in IFPTE an organization that can help lobby Congress and also understands engineering and power generation issues," IFPTE President Greg Junemann said.
